I've never been there!

Enfys' thread about the Festival of Lights at Longleat Safari Park has set me wondering .... It's not far from where I live, but I've never been there.

What places local to you have you never visited? And why?

Until this summer we had never visited some of the National Trust places quite near to us. I think this is quite common, that we don't go to places of interest that are on our doorstep. Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour is lovely but I've only been there once, keep saying we must go again.

A lot of the places in and around York I have been to because of taking other people! I was married to a southerner for many years, and every time my in laws came to stay we would go somewhere with them. Visitors from this country and aboard want to see things too, so I take them. I am quite well travelled locally

Ironically the reaon I've never been to Longleat is because we used to live in rural Bedfordshire and the only place to take visitors was Woburn Abbey and safari park. I was all safari-parked-out by the time we moved down here.

I've got a bucket list of places I must take photos of and one of them is Durdle Door on the Jurassic Coast. But it's best to go at sunrise/sunset so is weather and time dependent and hard to plan too far ahead.

Daisy I hope you get to photo Durdle Door, it is very interesting and beautiful, I am sure you will get some lovely photographs. It isn't very far from you is it?

No, it's not that far away, which is why it's so silly that I've never been there. As Enfys says, it's often the local places of interest that we miss out on. 😏

Never been on the Eye, or in the Dome....

Sum1 - OH and I were saying the other day we must go to the Dome sometime! I have been on the Eye, and loved it. The Shard is on my list, too!

Been on the Eye and in the Dome! We went when it was still the millennium dome and saw the trapeze artists, the body thingie etc. a huge place.

I've just found out that you can go to the top of the Walkie Talkie for free. You have to book in advance though. The structure is hideous from the outside but apparently the experience and view from the top is fantastic. Don't bother with the Shard, best viewed from the ground.

If you come to the Dome, I'll give you my guided tour of Greenwich and the Peninsula.

Sum1Ls - Many thanks for the offer of a personal tour - that would be fantastic! I have been to Greenwich several times when OH was working in Brockely, but there's nothing like seeing somewhere through the eyes of a 'local', so thank you very much!

Feeling every inch the country bumpkin, but what is the Walkie Talkie? It sounds intriguing.
