We may have made a decision......

Well we looked at Singapore but the accommodation prices are eye watering so that went out of the window. We looked at Bali and Cuba and for various reasons those were also discounted, Bali was because it would be the rainy season, an it remember why not Cuba but husband made the decision to discount it. The he said maybe we should do a two resort holiday and mentioned St Lucia and Barbados. Of course I was truly delighted to think I might be going back there but I didn't push it. We also looked at Hong Kong but it is difficult to get a staff seat to there for some reason.

Since then both of us have been clicking around and have (almost) decided on Tobago. Downsides are there are only two flights a week, they go from Gatwick ugh, I am in Woverhampton overnight on 4th November going straight from Wolves by train to a meeting in Euston offices from 1 until 3 on the 5th meaning I will not get home until about 6pm that night. We have to be at the airport by 8am the next day. I don't think driving to a hotel the night before is a reasonable option although that is what we normally do as getting on the M25 at that time of night will mean a lot of traffic and I will start the holiday stressed, going the following morning we can leave at 5.30am and miss the worst of the traffic. I shall have to be super organised and have all my stuff ready for packing on the Tuesday night. Another downside is that it is all inclusive which I am not normally keen on but none of the hotels have self catering facilities so we would probably be eating in the hotel anyway most of the time so it makes sense to pay four or five hundred quid more for AI.

Of course all this might change.............

Has anyone been to Tobago? We are looking at Turtle Beach which is a Rex Resort hotel and we have stayed in a few of them and usually they have been quite good and clean. Don't need too much really do you? If you have somewhere to sleep, lovely pool, a couple of bars, a white sandy beach and a kindle to read you are made aren't you?

Zizi - that's good progress with the planning, and Tobago sounds very exotic and different. (You discounted Cuba because you couldn't get a suitable flight)

You certainly will have to do all your packing a few days ahead, but would the traffic be better on the M25 if you left home at say, 8 pm? At least you would then be at the hotel ready for your flight the next day. All inclusive means you can really relax - no cooking, good choice of food, no washing up! What's not to like. I agree you don't need much - and your requirements sound just perfect to me.

Daisy if we leave at 8pm ish, depending on the traffic, we will probably be too late for dinner at hotel, not worried about the early morning drive to be honest.

OMA the new kitchen is almost taking on a life of its own, everytime we talk about it it seems to get more ambitious (for ambitious read expensive). It is fine, he swore a lot at the cooker today because it is not shutting properly, zip it ZIZ. Seems to work. I want integrated units, big fridge freezer (I would really like one of those American style ones but suspect it would be majorly over the top in my little kitchen. we will see how it goes, get the holiday out of the way, then celebrate mortgage free, that will be a good bottle of fizz which I already have stored, then Christmas and then KITCHEN.....

Zizi - Iv'e found out the hard way that when you're planning a big project like this you might as well go for exactly what you want, providing it doesn't bankrupt you, of course, because you have to live with it for a long time!

All sounds very exciting ZIZI. As Daisy and Oma say, you both deserve a holiday. Tobago sounds good, but we haven't been there.
Regarding the kitchen, if possible get what you want, it will be worth it. It's a long time since we got a new a kitchen, but there is nothing we would change because we got it right the first time.

I have never been to Tobago, Zizi, nor any of the other lovely places you describe!
Let us know what you decide. Whatever it is I'm sure it will be lovely and you will have a good time. The travel is always the bind, especially flight times!

I think it is definitely going to be Tobago. I sent my summer holiday clothes to the ironing fairy last time and they are all hanging up covered in plastic in one of my wardrobes. I ordered two lovely maxi skirts from my usual place, one a lovely colbalt print and the other the same but in orange print, and a pair of cork wedges with lots of silver strappy bits AND a new swim costume. They are all lovely. I have a really nice black swim suit but it is a V neck and I am not a little person in that respect so I feel it all sticks out a bit. I have another one which I bought a couple of years ago, it is burgundy with a straight top so boobies do not show so much. The new one is a lovely royal blue with a similar top. SO I am all ready, I don't need any more clothes (I cannot quite believe I have written that!! ) so it will just be pack and go although I am going to ask the doctor for some anti biotics in case of a flare up of you know what.

Oh I am so looking forward to finishing the secondment and going on holiday.

Gem I know I am very lucky to have the choice of lovely places to go but we wouldn't be able to afford it if it wasn't for husband's travel concessions even though I even moan about just paying the tax because I am a meanie . We spent twenty odd years without a holiday because of the business (oh and that we couldn't afford it) so it is lovely to now be able to go to nice places.

Zizi - working as hard as Mr Z and you do, you don't just deserve a good holiday - you NEED it to recharge your batteries. But I'm worried about you - I really, really cannot believe that you don't need any more clothes! What about more shoes? Or handbags? Or perfume? Or jewellery? There MUST be something!!!

Its sounding fabulous Zizi you go and have the time of your life and relax you deserve it,and as for your kitchen you go for what you want never mind the cost (she says spending zizi's bank balance) I made do with a kitchen many years ago due to finance (lack of) and every time I entered that kitchen for 5 years I shouted out "I hate this kitchen" so go with what you want sweetie. xx

I know Daisy, even as I was writing that I had my mind on a new beach bag! I am sure I told a big fat lie and I will be off buying "essential items" between now and the holiday............

Plant - my last seconded meeting is 2nd November, then I am home on the Tuesday, in Wolverhampton overnight 4th, in a long meeting on the 5th in London and we fly on the Friday 6th, return on 16th (arriving on the 17th) but don't go back to work until 23rd November. I have to book the house sitter this weekend so that is yet another job to do!! So we will be in time for Ben's birthday and I will be in a rush to get his cake made for the 18th November.

Glam I must admit that I detest my cooker and the fact that I have not a lot of storage space. What I would really like is one of those American Fridges, integrated washer dryer, dishwasher, recycle and rubbish bins, seperate hob and cooker, integral wine rack etc etc but as I type I am looking up from my table and cannot for the life of me see how all that is going to fit in. Husband fitted the last one but we will get someone in this time as it was a nightmare when he did it and there was a fair bit of arguing that went on. I said I would rather move house than have another new kitchen (but that was 11 years ago or thereabouts)
