    In Newcastle

Oma I hope you and Brian are both well and everything went OK at the hospital. We arrived in Newcastle ten minut ahead of schedule, no rain! Hotel room lovely, I had asked for twelve noon check in but got here at 11.30 and the rooms was ready so pleased with that. Interesting view from the window, looking forward to seeing it tonight. The address is "Bottlebank" but I haven't seen one yet. Been on the sightseeing bus. What a lovely city, lots of lovely good shops, I only bought a small gift for my friend as her 60th birthday was this week too. Had lunch in Harry's bar in Grainger Town (might be wrong about the location but it is just over the Tyne Bridge and across the river from the hotel. Spent some time listening to a group of 40 something blokes, had to listen for a while to acclimatise my ears to the accents but I gather none of them were poor, one was telling his four-ish year old that the heated swimming pool he was building in the garden would be ready next week but of course I might have interpreted the words wrong (red smiley face) ............. Wore flats today intending to wear heels tonight with black dress and red jacquard jacket which I bought for the award ceremony in February and haven't had a chance to wear since, but I do not think my feet will stand it so I nipped to Tesco and bought a plain black tee shirt to go with my black jeans and the red jacket. I will jazz them up with my jewellery and will wear my heels but take my big hand bag (as opposed to my lovely ladylike titchy one) and take my flats although they are a sand colour and don't match but rather be comfy than in pain and looking trendy........ Now whoever would have thought a year ago I would be saying that? It has been very humid and I am a stinky person right now (well I think I am) so having a nice bath in a minute with a friendly gin and tonic. Meeting friends at 6.15 for a drink and then going to dinner. On the sight seeing bus, as it drew near the hotel (Hilton), the commentary said we were "approaching the best hotel in Newcastle and if you feel like it you can get off here and pretend you are staying there". Is it really the best in Newcastle? It is very nice but not ever so expensive at £97 including full breakfast for a deluxe room which I think is OK but of course I wouldn't be staying a week here at that price! We are going to Bessie Surtees House tomorrow and also to the castle which I can see from the window. Posting some pictures now but took some this afternoon on my camera which I will download tomorrow or over the weekend.

thanks Plant, it is Saturday actually. My nephew also has a birthday on Saturday and my granddad as well (only he died over 40 years ago) and my uncle (died about four years ago) and my brother from whom I am estranged, well so is everyone else in the family now.

Home tomorrow afternoon, up to town on Saturday for theatre and hotel, lunch with family in a toilet on Twickenham Green on Sunday. I am a lucky lady.

Ha ha Libra it is no longer a toilet. When I was a girl and indeed until the last ten years or so it was a public loo but it is now a restaurant.

Oma we had dinner by the bridge in the arts centre next to it and walked across it, the bridge that is. Before we went to dinner the bridge opened which was impressive. Took some pictures on my camera. Then went and had a couple of drinks and walked back over the swing bridge which is under our window at the hotel.

I am tired now. Will have a quick look around and then get my head down.

I do love Newcastle and can sit and listen to the locals speaking all day long their accent is spoken with such warmth I think its a mixture between Liverpudlian and Scots all mingled together. xx enjoy your birthday Zizi I hope the week-end stays nice and you have a good time with your family in the toilet.

Yes we went to SIx. My friend asked if we could have a river view when she booked as it was a special occasion for both of us but unfortunately we didn't get that but we did get a slate with little petit fours on and "happy birthday" in icing. I took a picture and will post it when I have time. We are going across they wing bridge shortly to the Bessie Surtees House so I don't think we will have time to do the Sage this time but I am sure we will be back, it wasn't expensive to get here and only took an hour on the plane not including the check in etc. but flew from Heathrow so just a five minute us ride for us.

It is quite overcast he now although earlier it was lovely and sunny earlier, never mind, not the end of the world. Hope Brian is feeling alright this morning.

Zizi - I'm just catching up and I've enjoyed reading all about your trip. I've never been to Newcastle (on Tyne, that is!) but used to live a mile or so from Newcastle-under-Lyme. There doesn't seem to be much similarity, apart from the names! It sounds as though you're having a lovely time, and your hotel looks super. Have fun.

Glam my accent is Mackem slightly softer than Geordie , but i hate to hear our accent on TV it makes me cringe . lots of people say they love to hear a north east accent but i cant see anything to like in it . As Mackems we dont pronounce our H`s so its ouse and ut not House and Hut , your right about the mix of scot we do say a lot of words the same ,also we talk quick so to outsiders its hard to catch what we say
