    Wild swimming!

On Monday we will be going on a family day out.
This has been planned a while and was the date the majority of the family could do.

It is to a local wild swimming area. It has lakes, a cafe and plenty of space to relax.
All my DDs have swum here at various times.
OH and I love sea swimming (in warm seas) She is even more of cold water wimp than I am so definitely won't be swimming in the Yorkshire lake. I almost certainly won't be, but will take my swimming gear just in case.

The forecast is very good. We plan to take our camping chairs and a picnic and just enjoy being with the family

Gem, I love the idea of wild swimming, but not too keen on very cold water. Even so, if I do brave icy temperatures I feel great afterwards and very smug!!! If you take your swimsuit you will have the choice, but take something cosy to put on after your swim.

It looks a good place to spend a family day out, so it will be fun whatever you decide to do.

Well that was the perfect day
The weather - unheard of for a British Bank holiday, was wonderful

It was lovely to see so many families and groups happily enjoying the summer.
We were at the big lake, which is the only one children can use. It is big and there is so much room both in the water and around the lake.

DDs 2 and 3, both SILs, GD and L, GSs 2 and 3, and my exe's OH all swam. The little boys wore wet suits, the others normal swimwear and all wore swim shoes.
The GSs only had one dip each but the others all had a second swim later on.
Sunshine, picnic, lovely lakeside location, family, what a lovely day
Before OH started her treatment I wasn't even sure we would be able to go yesterday, which made if more special.

I was tempted to swim, all assured me it wasn't bad once you got in. My back/hip is so painful at present though, the thought of slipping over or making anything worse climbing out was the decider for me. I may try it one day!

Gem, thank you for sharing the photos. It looks like an ideal spot for a family picnic, and I bet the GCs loved being able to go in the water. Is your new picnic chair comfortable?

                  Yes, they were Daisy

Our posh ones (a lockdown purchase) with integral shade canopy are more comfy, but too heavy to carry far. These fitted the bill perfectly.

Gem, That's the trade off, isn't it. The more luxurious the chairs, the heavier they are. I'm glad you found a comfortable compromise.

Looks wonderful. And how good to have safe unpolluted water to swim in.

My aqua friend told me today she may go swimming at the lake with me.

OH has stated she definitely never will, which is no surprise as she hates cold water.
I hate cold water too, but not as much as she does and I am willing to give it a try

Whether we will go this year now remains to be seen. We feel that neither of us will be cold weather swimmers!

My DDs go regularly but are braver than me!

Gem, if you're going to try wild swimming, I believe September is the best time. The water has been warmed (relatively!) through the summer, but the air temperature is cooler, so there is less contrast between the two. I'm sure it's still only just this side of freezing, but better than say Spring or even early Summer.

I've notice the regular wild swimmers at our local beach all wear swimming caps and swim shoes, and have those cosy-looking garments to snuggle into immediately they get out of the water.

I hope you and S both felt encouraged by the fact that she was able to enjoy the day out. xx

We were Daisy. We are grateful for every day she is feeling OK and we are getting on with life

Gem, that's good. It's the only way as far as I'm concerned. xxx
