    London taxis

A tall order here, but I am just wondering if anyone has experience of good and reliable taxi services in London? Specifically Kings Cross to Heathrow.

I know the cheapest way is tube Kings Cross to Heathrow, and OH would choose this method. I would be happy with that, except for the large suitcase and it being a Friday evening. I will feel safer and less anxious just taking a taxi although I know it will cost a lot. I think booking ahead may be better as it seems you can get an agreed price that way.

Last time we flew to Canada from Heathrow OH drove and lovely Tizzy let us leave our car at hers and she and Paul so kindly drove us to the airport and picked us up on our return!! Amazing.

This time we are going to Kings Cross by train, and need to get to the airport hotel at Heathrow.

Liz, I haven't checked, but I think there may be a coach service from Kings Cross to Heathrow. It would be a lot cheaper than a taxi, as long as you can allow yourself plenty of time in case of holdups (which would apply to a taxi as well, of course). Are you staying the night in the hotel?

Nan2, one of my main memories of London taxis is a taxi driver shouting at my friend and me as we lugged our suitcases from the taxi to our flat. He was shouting that we were supposed to give a tip! We were students and couldn't spare anything! Like most young people we thought we were right and he was wrong!
Looking back he was right in a way but had no right to shout at young girls.

We usually took the tube, I have no idea why we went by taxi that time.

Yes Daisy, we are travelling to London on Friday late afternoon, staying overnight in a hotel close to the airport.
I think I did look into coaches a while ago, but we would have to get from King's Cross to somewhere else to get the coach. I will check though, it's a good suggestion.

No experience here but a Uber sounds a good suggestion to me and you can agree a price before hand I think.

Gem, you'd probably be just as well picking up a taxi from the rank at KX. There's not a lot of places where a prebooked taxi could wait which might be a problem if your train is late. No idea of prices though, sorry.

I agree with WG. I travel through KX when I visit DD and taxis are numerous and easy to access and it might be tricky to rendezvous with an Uber.Just my opinion 😀
