    A Good Day Out

On Thursday OH and I went to the annual New Forest Show - a huge event on the edge of our little village. It's something I always look forward to - I love the colour, bustle and huge variety of events taking place, plus a little retail therapy. It epitomises summer for me - even when it rains!

This year OH was demonstrating on the wood turning stand so most of the time I wandering round without any plans, stopping to chat to friends, look at beautiful craft and art work, visiting the animal enclosures - whatever took my fancy.

The sun shone but a breeze kept the temperature to a comfortable level, and everyone was in festive mood, so lots of opportunities for people watching.

I watched an amazing demonstration on gun dog training, including a 12 week old English Springer spaniel at the early puppy training stage. Those dogs are so clever! OH managed a quick coffee and cake with me in the Church tent and a very nice lunch.

The highlight was an incredible display by the Household Cavalry!! So highly trained, so skillful and all serving soldiers - they were quite literally magnificent. Did a little bit of shopping - lovely cakes for the freezer (for when we have visitors), a pretty pair of silver earrings, and New Forest honey for my friend for dog sitting. We got home about 7 pm and my friend had cooked a delicious dinner - so a long, tiring but happy day!

The photos are OH busy making mushrooms, the HC performing an incredibly difficult 'wheel' manoeuvre, and the grand finale performed at breakneck speed to thunderous applause from the onlookers.

Tell us about any days out you've particularly enjoyed this year.

Plant - me too. My father always used to take me to agricultural shows when I was little and I loved it - and still do!

Daisy that sounds a wonderful day! We go to a very scaled down version of that, near our friends parents farm, at the end of August. Great photos, that wood turning looks very skilful!

Yes, he's pretty careful - even that small lathe can kick hard! The floor of the marquee was wooden and every time anyone walked past the lathe 'jumped'! What you can't see in the photo is the extraction system sucking the fine dust down into a container. On his own lathes he uses ear defenders and sometimes a special air filter because some woods are highly toxic, and he has an extractor system fitted in his workshop.

Daisy my Hubby is very interested in what your Hubby has in his workshop, extractor and safe equipment, etc. What a shame we live so far apart, he could advise him. My Hubby is just getting his shed made and is looking out for which makes are recommended. Are there any particular makes you could recommend and what piece of equipment can he not be without, apart from the lathe of course. Any help welcome please.

Sorry this place was for good days out .
                  Glad you had one Daisy

Glad to hear your day went so well Daisy. The New Forest show is always so interesting, we haven't been for ages, must really make the effort next year?
