    I Too Am "Concerned"

David Cameron states that he is "concerned" about the situation in Calais. DS2 and grandchildren are booked to go through the tunnel tomorrow, returning in a few days and then going again a week later.
With another migrant killed in the tunnel last night, following over 1,500 migrants storming the tunnel overnight, port workers/migrants setting fire to the tunnel entrance and French farmers now spraying cars with manure and now the Foreign Office is suggesting that travellers do not return through Calais at all but divert to Dunkirk. All this plus the fact that the approach to the tunnel is blocked with lorries due to Operation Stack. There is an emergency COBRA meeting this morning but I am not hopeful that anything will change any time soon.

I can understand your concern Bizzy. There's lots of discussion about it on tv at the moment. I believe 'they're' wanting the armed forces to be involved sooner rather than later. Who 'they' are I'm not sure. Saying this I'm sure that your son will weigh all this up before he travels. ☺

I am not sure he will have a choice Mamar as it is DIL 40th birthday celebrations and all her family are going too. Not much chance he will be allowed to back out!!

I have a friend who is on a five day coach trip to Bruge. Due back on Friday. Meant to be a break to get over fracturing her hip a few days before Christmas. Bet she is a bag of nerves. Hope they've found an alternative route home and that your DS gets through ok. So much for a European Union when they treat people in such a dreadful way.

BL - you can't help worrying when your family gets caught up in horrific events beyond their control. I must admit I haven't seen or heard or read much on the news for weeks, but it's a dreadful situation. I hope your DS finds a way safely round it. xx

They have set off now and no news of problems in the Tunnel overnight so far. This is the big topic of conversations and cause of concern in our part of Kent at the moment. Business suffering, people unable to reach hospital for appointments, get to funerals and other important events. Weddings are spoilt as goods are not turning up in time and guests cannot get to venue. Emergency services struggling to deal with it all.

If it's any help my stepdaughter and her husband went over to the Loire Valley for 2 weeks, got through fine and came back at the weekend with absolutely no trouble, just straight through. Hope it will be the same BL.

Apparently they arrived okay with nothing significant happening. He forgot to text me of course and did not let me know until I texted him and asked!!! Relieved anyway. They come back Saturday evening and then go back again next Wednesday heading for the South of France that time. Thanks for your reassurance Elisi.

My friend on the coach holiday had no problems at all. She said you could see the tents but all is quiet in the daytime.
