Gem, we started off thinking about a motor home, but they are incredibly expensive, apart from other practical reasons like space on our drive, neither of us wanted to use it as our main transport and once you're on a site you have to do quite a lot of work to pack up just to drive to a supermarket or whatever. We bought a very old caravan privately - it's now 22 years old! - and very cheaply. We've had very few problems - just wear and tear on water pipes - and it has all mod cons and plenty of space.

We seriously looked at buying a brand new one last Autumn, but decided our old faithful was good for a few more years.
