    A long caravan trip

We've just had 8 days staying in Chester. It's the longest trip we've done in the caravan - 6 hours going north and 7 coming south. We've decided that's the longest trip we can do without an overnight stop.

We had a very busy time, mainly seeing OH's family in North Wales, and one day very old friends from Stoke came over and spent the day with us. On the Sunday OH's youngest brother and his wife invited us for Sunday lunch in Abergele, which was lovely. We visited his oldest sister and her OH in Prestatyn, and his eldest brother's wife near Mold. Sadly his eldest brother is in a nursing home, suffering from vascular dementia. He wouldn't have known us if we had visited, and I think OH prefers to remember the brother he has know all his life rather than how he is now.

We found a great place to eat, only 300 yards from the campsite. It was strange because when we lived in that area - about 50 years ago - this building (a large old house) was all but derelict and someone had bought it just for storage. He then wanted to turn it into a night club and asked OH and I if we would run it. We weren't keen, and eventually it was sold. It's had a chequered history but is now a very nice place to eat. Twice it was warm and sunny enough to eat out on the terrace. Eva made herself thoroughly at home each time and got lots of fuss from staff and other visitors.

We didn't get round to visiting Cheshire Oaks retail village, which was a pity.

The area has changed beyond recognition since I worked around there. We were constantly using the sat nav and recognised very few places. We haven't had this car long and haven't used the sat nav much. But Lil, as we call her, provided a lot of entertainment. Eventually OH worked out what instructions like "take the A55 food" (or "fud" or "fun") meant. I would never have worked it out - the word was "soon"!!! Even more entertaining were some Welsh place names. We wondered what she would make of it if we wanted to visit LlanfairPG - the 26 letter place name on Anglesey.

The campsite was quite small but very nice. Nearly everyone seemed to have at least one dog in tow, but everyone waited outside the dog walk area if there was anyone in there. Apart from one man who insisted it would be ok to let any other dog on the planet loose with his dog. We politely declined.

I would have loved to be able to arrange to meet up with Glamm, but perhaps next time we'll be better organised.

So we got home on Sunday evening, tired but having had an enjoyable time.

That sounds like a good week Daisy, you have seen a lot of family and friends, it would be a long drive with the caravan though.

Daisy, you do well to travel that far in one go! I think it's around 7 hours drive for us to Cornwall and we broke our journey with overnight stays there and back.

It sounds as though you had a good and social time and packed lots in!

I think your OH was right in his decision regarding his brother.

Oma, you're right. It was tiring all the visiting, making arrangements and chatting. We ached from laughter with our friends' visit. We introduced Eva to my youngest BIL's dog. It went well until their leads got tangled and they both panicked a bit. But better than it might have been.

Gem and Lizzie, the current towing car is very comfortable and being automatic is less tiring to drive. Most of the journey was motorways which we know well, and that all helps.

Gem, I think OH was right about his brother, and sister-in-law was very happy to leave the choice to us. She's a lovely lady and didn't pressure us one way or the other.

Thank you Nanto. It's something we've been meaning to do for ages, even though we still didn't see everyone we'd hoped to.
