    I wish I had a crystal ball!

For travellers to the USA (and probably other parts of the world as well) there is added stress these days.
The UK government recently stopped the requirement for travellers to be tested before entering the UK. The tests had to be taken two days before flying home. These resulted in many people having to stay on in the States, in isolation, until they tested negative. Thankfully that is gone.

However the US government require everyone to have a negative lateral flow test 24 hours before flying to the States. This means at the last minute your holiday could be off.
It is very stressful and nerve wracking.

My hope is that before we fly in April Joe Biden may relax this rule. Who knows if he will though.
So, unless he does, we will all have to pay lot of money to take these supervised tests and hope, pray and cross our fingers.

I intend to mix as little as possible in the days leading up to our trip, to minimise any risk of testing positive on the Friday. I will have to see my mum, as two weeks with no visit for her will be long enough. I won't do my library stint or go to the pool or do anything apart from collect the children from school and see mum. We would normally have our hair trimmed before we go but we won't. I will have my toe nails done a couple of weeks before.

I hope that the tests are abandoned by then, and if not that all eight of us test negative!!
I wish I had that crystal ball to tell me if I am worrying for nothing!

Gem, my brothers DIL has just been to New York, it cost them £1,200 extra for tests etc etc. There were 4 of them.

Gem - I do hope it all works for you. The friends we visited today are having exactly the same worries, plus if connecting flights are delayed they will be in transit when they need to do the tests. I just hope America lifts the restrictions before you go.

You've waited so long for this holiday, it would be awful if anything happened to spoil it for you. xx

Oma, I seriously wish all the GC could be home schooled for that week leading up to it! We should all go into Lockdown mode for that week!

Oma - I was thinking something similar - Gem's whole family should be in self-isolation for the previous week!

I really have to see my mum, but apart from that I wish we could all stay home!

We just have to hope that even if the entry rues to the US stay the same, that the rates of Omnicrom in spring will be far less than they are in January, so less risk of testing positive.

The test two days after returning to the UK has now been scrapped. That isn't one I was concerned about as we will be home by then.
It's one expense less though, especially for DD2 with four of them.

Gem - there's time for some of the other restrictions to be lifted by the time you go. xx

Well I bit the bullet and have bought our tests and booked the online supervision appointment for the morning of the day before we fly.
This is just OH and me. Each family is responsible for arranging their own. I have told the others I have done ours.

If we don't need it I will be so happy I won't mind the wasted money!

I just think Biden has more on his mind right now than entry restrictions.

Gem - everything crossed for all of you. I'm sure Biden is busy elsewhere (he ought to be anyway)

Our neighbours who are going skiing tomorrow (mentioned in Daily Drop-in) are biting their nails. Their whole family is going - their 3 adult children, all their other halves (one pregnant) and 3 children aged 3-7. The 3 year old tested positive a few days ago!
