Outdoor swimming

No not wild swimming, but my youngest daughter does that often!

During the summer holidays I went with DD2 and the three GC to a heated outdoor pool near Harrogate. We had a lovely time.

OH and I decided we would like to go once the school holidays were over.
We went yesterday. The forecast showed thunderstorms for the exact period of time we were there!
We set off, had our swim and splash about. Not even a drop of rain. It is only £5 each for the prebooked 75 minutes, definitely worth it. I had hoped to book a late morning session so we could have lunch in the pub next door afterwards, but 3pm was the only time available.
There were two ladies together, a man on his own, a mum with two school age children and several mums or dads with toddlers. There was a friendly holiday feel about it all

Once dressed we had a drink in the garden of the pub then drove back. On the way back we had tea out at a restaurant we love but rarely go to as it is too far to go for meal out really. As we ate the heavens opened, rain bouncing off the roads!! No thunder though. By the time we left it was fine again.

A very nice day for us both.

It felt like a holiday day Oma!

It closes next week for a while, although reopens in December! We wanted to get this in while we can.
It stays open over winter, but we will hopefully start to go again once warmer weather comes around, in term time.

Gem - what a brilliant day. It's funny how sometimes those 'holiday' days out from home can be even better than some holiday days. And you get to sleep in your own bed at night!

Every so often I think OH and I should have a few days of being holiday-makers in our own village. We never do!

SiL often swims in the sea (estuary), no matter what the weather, but then he has all the gear. I haven’t swum at all this year, inside or out, and the sea (estuary) is just at the bottom of the road. Quite a few of my neighbours swim in the sea (estuary 😆) regularly and we are a road of pensioners. Well ‘ard folk.

Grauntie - it must be great having the estuary right at the end of your road. I've always wanted to live right by the sea. We're only a few miles inland, but being able to walk down the road and at least see the sea would be brilliant. But then I love being in the Forest, too.

We lived by the sea in Melbourne and I often used to walk along the beach after I'd dropped DS off at school in the morning. It was also great to be able to go there anytime you felt like it. The sea was also very accessible in The Netherlands. Used to go to the beach front cafes in the Winter for coffee and poffertjes! Sadly our nearest sea is a looooong way away and we don't go as often as we should.

We used to live in Dedham Vale which was magnet for tourists as is Cambridge. Both places lovely out of season!

Like you WG we are a long way from the sea but very close to the Thames. Not good to swim in the Thames, there is usually one or two drownings, young people usually, first hot day and they feel like a swim, there have been two close by this year. the Thames is lovely to look at, boat on but not for swimming. I used to swim in the Thames near Hampton Court as a child but it was a proper bathing station a`nd was supervised.

We live 40 miles from the sea. I love sea swimming, but not in our cold seas!!

I must admit i'm not a fan of being in water.
Even in warm seas when we are abroad,i only paddle.

Nanto - I love swimming in the sea, but the Med is as cold as I can stand it - the Caribbean is better, but such a long way away!
