Family gatherings on any scale just haven't happened for anyone for so long.
We decided to have a big trip out to the seaside this summer.
A day was chosen to suit all, which was today.
Last week my ex's OH's son got a gig with his band for today, which he obviously couldn't turn down as times are hard for performers. So he and his GF were missing.
We were still a party of 14 though, including SIL2's parents.
The day was forecast dull and 17% maximum. It soon became much warmer and fleeces and jackets were removed. The sun came out for quite long time and lots of suncream was applied
It was such a happy day.
We made a big camp and several people worked on and off all day to build a large and beautiful sand village (named Hollywood by the children!) Passers by all admired this!
Some people brought picnics and some bought fish and chips. We brought a picnic but bought chips to go with it My cupcakes with pink icing and sprinkles went down well.
Ice creams later of course, as it was a day at the seaside.
DD and SIL3 and the children went into the sea. The rest of us paddled but they swam. GS2 came back after a while, and the other four swam for ages!
We all feel so happy and relaxed, and very lucky.
