Friends invited us to join them on a short holiday in glamping pods In Yorkshire. A colleague and husband of one of our friends have a farm. They converted a corner into the pod area. They only started to rent them out from early July this year so all very new.
This is 'camping' in style and the only kind you will find me doing! We had adjacent pods. They each have sitting/dining area with TV, bedroom, and kitchen, all in one, and separate bathroom (shower, not bath) and a veranda and outside seating area. Some have hot tubs but we didn't book those.
Although each couple had a pod, we had our meals together in one or the other. We made cooked breakfast on the first two mornings. The first night we ate at the local pub, about 15 minutes walk away. The second night we ate at theirs, last night they at ours! We took easy to prepare meals. We a had nice time, and went on a few trips out too.
It rained almost every night, but the rain held off mostly during the daytime and didn't stop us. We went to Settle and a few other little places and did a bit of walking . They went on walk the second day that I knew my knee was too sore to attempt, and needed a day off. I found a 20111 film version of Jane Eyre with Judi Dench as Mrs Fairfax on TV, so was in my element whilst they were out![Smile](https://gransrus.com/core/images/smilies/smile.png)
Yesterday we went to Malham Tarn.
The pods are just by Pen-y-ghent and the three peaks walking area. Not an area I would have chosen myself, due to it being hilly and more suited to serious walkers. Also very close to the covid-high areas of Yorkshire. I did enjoy myself though, and was grateful to be asked to go. We may have had no holiday at all if not.
It was good to get out and about and see some lovely scenery (and so many sheep!!) and to spend more time with friends.
Sleeping was the only problem. The beds are double and we are all used to king sized. It fits so snugly into the pod against the wall. This means when you are our age and get up for the loo at least twice a night it is virtually impossible for the person sleeping on the inside to get out. Young nimble people who don't need the loo during the night - no problem I'm sure!
Luckily the pod's sofa pulls out into passable double sofa bed. We discovered this at about 4 am on the first night, when OH couldn't sleep at all and I had dropped off very briefly a couple of times. Next morning we discovered that our friends had the same problem and hadn't slept either. We told them about the sofa bed solution and the next 2 nights we all had a bed each which made sleep possible!
As we had gone Saturday to Tuesday, we were able to take advantage of the governments dine out scheme. Today and yesterday when we had tea and cake in cafes, we were presented with very small bills!
