    Poor Son's Holiday Cancelled

We knew it was expected and son & his wife have been waiting for the date to apply for their refund for their Mexico holiday due to start at the end of this month, they have applied to Tui for the refund but have been passed from pillar to post,it involves quite a lot of money as they where taking her grand parents with them for the first week so there was no chance of them going due to shielding anyway as they are on the 3 month list.
He tried all yesterday to get the process in motion but with no luck the Company want him to accept a credit note or to book for next year which they don't want to do,they would rather have the refund and put into an Isa for the time being as he says how does he know if he accepts a credit note or rebook that the Company will not go into liquidation during this next few months.

I don't know the laws in the the UK, it was on the TV over here the other week that they have to give refunds and not credit notes or vouchers, but, as I say, I don't know what the laws are in the UK. I do hope they get their money refunded.

Lizzie48,I think I read something of the same last week,he says they are trying everything to get him to accept a credit note and he is not accepting it at all, luckily enough he is a shop manager so is well up on his consumer rights so it should be OK.
I really feel for them as they like everyone else who have been cancelled work long hours and really go over the top on their holidays 5* hotels etc and always all inclusive, it was to be their last long haul holiday before they started trying for a baby next year sometime he is my youngest son and they had not long moved to Leek in Staffordshire before his dad died in December they love it there but just a wee bit too far away for me to visit when all this is over.I hope he gets it sorted soon as he is not a very patient boy if he gets messed around.

Such a shame and so disappointing for him Glamma.
These companies are flouting the law. You can really understand why, as with all the refunds their businesses will go under. Customers need their money though.

As well as our family Florida holiday OH is also missing the golf holiday to Portugal with friends that she was due to go on next month.
Jet2, who are always so good, are refunding their flights for that holiday with no problem.
KLM however insist on breaking the law by refusing us refunds on our expensive Florida flights and only offering vouchers, which have yet to arrive.

I can understand them not wanting to refund but as I said he is frightened they will go under anyway if he accepts vouchers or credit note, the total cost was over 5K as they paid a large chunk of her GPs costs I've just spoken to him and suggested he waits until next year before even thinking of going away and putting the money towards a new house he says he can get a 3 bed detached with land for far less than he would pay for here on The Wirral so he may decide to do that just got to get the funds back in their bank for starters ??

It was on This morning that if the holiday is cancelled by the company they must by law give a refund plus within 2 weeks of cancelling it . Although in realistic terms it can take up to 5 month to get the refund due to staffing issues .

Am I entitled to a refund in the form of a travel voucher?
You're entitled to a travel voucher if:
              - You booked a flight before or on 21 April 2020 and with a scheduled departure before or on 31 August 2020, and your flight has been cancelled by the airline or you’ve decided not to travel right now.
              - You booked a flight on or after 22 April 2020, and your flight has been cancelled by the airline.

You can request a travel voucher until 30 June 2021, but it would be especially helpful to us if you would do so before your original travel date.

If your flight has been cancelled by the airline, your travel voucher is refundable after 1 year from the date of issue. If you’ve requested a voucher while your flight was not cancelled by the airline, the travel voucher is non-refundable.

Different policies are in place for KLM Package Deals, KLM Flight Bundle, and Flying Blue reward tickets. Did you book your ticket via a travel agent? Please contact them directly to request information on refund options.

We were meant to go to Krakow in April but our trip was cancelled we were offered a credit note which I declined but we did book another holiday albeit to a different destination for 2021 and this is ATOL protected so if Riviera Travel don’t survive this crisis our holiday cost will be recovered. I’m sure they can insist on the money refunded but it will probably take a long time to come through. Hope they get it sorted to their satisfaction.
our flights to Portugal this month were cancelled and we rescheduled for later in the year , we have more flights on 24 June and that looks unlikely to go ahead too, a5 present EasyJet are only offering reschedules up to May 21 and I would want to go in June so I’m hoping that will change as we move into June.

DS2 and his partner were due to go to Lanzarote on the 20th April.
The holiday company emailed to say they could book it for next year, like for like.
While DS was out she arranged to book it for next year. Then got an email saying it would be £60 each extra, so she paid it.
When she told son,he said thats not like for like. he told her she should have gone for the refund.
They were due to go to Paris in July, for the final of the Tour De France, which is not going ahead now until August, all being well.
She has been told by son to get a refund if they can't go. Even though the race is postponed, they would have gone to see the sights.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Glamm - we've been talking to the agents handling my late cousin's house this week - they've reopened and it seems people are keen to start looking for houses again, so I hope your lad finds something suitable. He's right about Leek - prices are very low, and it's a nice town - in lovely surroundings.

Oh dear, I do feel sorry for all those people with cancelled holidays. I suppose the tour operators are fighting for survival, but I can't help wondering how many of them will still be here this time next year.

I hope everyone gets their money back ok.
