    My Trip to Yorkshire

I belong to a National Trust Group with about 150 members, they have monthly talks, coffee mornings, walks and 2 holidays a year. they use the same coach company every time. This holiday was arranged by the Secretary and the Chairman to Yorkshire. We left about 10am last Monday and stopped at Nostell Priory for lunch and arrived at the Warners Hotel Nidd Hall about 4.30, time to get settled in our rooms before dinner. There were 48 of us and our rooms were dotted all over the hotel. Unfortunately the swimming pool was out of action as they were having a problem with the tiles. I don't know if any of you have stayed in a Warners but the food is amazing, apart from the veg. Tues we visited Newby Hall, that was an amazing place, a definite must if you are in the area. Wed was a trip to York, a very hot day, my friend and I opted for a river trip and The Shambles, the Cathedral was shut for viewing as there was a service taking place but we visited a small church opposite where Guy Fawkes was Christened, had lunch and visited The Shambles. Good job I didn't arrange to meet up with Gemini because our drop off point was changed at the last minute. Thurs. was a visit to Fountains Abbey, the ruins are amazing but not an easy place for the aged as there was a lot of walking if you wanted to see everything and only one bus to ferry people around. That was the day I should have stayed at Warners. Friday set off home calling at Sudbury Hall for lunch which we had ordered but not a great success. Our organiser and our coach driver were amazing (she always uses the same driver). I am going on another trip with the group in Sept. to Norfolk but to a Holiday Inn. Gemini you live in a wonderful city and I love Yorkshire, I have had many holidays there with OH and would love to return one day.

Sounds like you had an interesting and busy week Plant. York is a lovely city but I don't know much about the countryside around it. Now you have your September trip to look forward to.
Believe you can and you're halfway there.

I love Yorkshire Plant, but I am biased!
I was sorry we couldn't meet up, but I know you had your busy schedule!
It sounds as though you crammed in plenty of sights on your trip.
Newby Hall is lovely, and we love taking the GC there. I'm so glad you had a lovely time and the weather fell in with your plans

I wish we could have a GRU gathering in York. Lots to do and see and I am good local tour guide A long way for our Southern members though I know.

Another biased friend here Plant , Yorkshire is sometimes underrated ,I know all the places you visited love Newby Hall often take the grandchildren they love the fountains, York would be lovely for a meet up ,bit we are so spread about the country

York isn't too difficult for me to get to. Maybe I could join you since I'm missing the Brum 'do'......pretty please?

I did look Qwerty but it would be over 4 hours with one change on the train.

Plant - what a lovely time you had in Yorkshire - you certainly crammed a lot into a few short days. I have never been to York, but it sounds lovely and everyone seems to fall in love with it. In my imaginations I see it as being very similar to Chester, which I like very much. There's something about these very old cities that is so special.

I think I will be goin g to a Warners near Chester next year. I don't know if Gemini agrees but York is much bigger and lots more to do.
