    Bulgaria ?

My DD have been looking at Bulgaria for a week away in September,as you know we have been going to Majorca for the past few years for our girly getaway in May but just fancied a change later this year also,so am asking has anyone any experience of Bulgaria, the brochures show nice hotels and surroundings but I am not quite sure, positive & negative comments are welcome ladies.

We went in 1989. I think it was just starting up as a holiday resort for the british.
When we checked in at the hotel,we were given vouchers for dining.
We could use these at any restaurant or hotel in the resort.
The 2 main areas were Golden Sands and Sunny Beach. We stayed in Golden Sands.
I think it has come a long way since we went. Back then, there wasn't a lot to do in the resort,
although we did go on quite a few excursions.
        The beaches were spotless.
If you do go,remember if they nod their head it means no. I f they shake their head it means yes.
Although they are now part of the EU, they don't use the Euro. they use the Bulgarian Lev.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I think my son has been there for a stag do. He said the architecture was amazing and everything was very cheap but it was a while ago. Might be worth getting a copy of the Rough Guide to Bulgaria to get a more honest overview. I did a quick google and there seem to be sandy beaches and lots of ancient buildings. Not sure what the weather is like though. Not somewhere I have thought of but it does look interesting but not too sure what the food would be like.

I've never been but my cousin used to go regularly. He had a slightly unusual (but happy) long-distance marriage to a Russian lady, and they used to meet up for holidays in Bulgaria - Sunny Beach rings a bell. Sadly she has since died, but they both enjoyed their Bulgarian holidays.

The only adverse thing I remember was local hospitals weren't great, but hopefully you won't be needing medical treatment.
