How sad. I read Geoffrey Howe has just passed away at 88. A good long life and must have been an interesting one at that!Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. T.S EliotComment

Indeed. And only shortly after Denis Heaky died. Remembering the 'dead sheep' comment I have a happy image of Denis singing 'Sheep may safely graze' as he welcomes Howe through the pearly gates.Comment

Seems like only yesterday we were watching Gordon Honeycombe - hard to believe he was that age too. Geoffrey Howe is such a memorable politician and I still remember listening to "that speech" live which was such a shock to everyone in The House. Denis Healey once said that being attacked by Geoffrey Howe was like being savaged by a dead sheep. However, he certainly packed a punch on that day and his statement was considered to be the beginning of the end for Margaret Thatcher. He was a however mostly a very nice, kind and polite man the like of which we do not see much in politics today.Be careful when blindly following the Masses.
