Yes I heard this seems bizarre but possible , most creams seem to have this paraffin in I can remember Vaseline being called petroleum jelly worrying isn’t it, you heard of people combusting spontaneously wonder if that was the problem, Vick had paraffin in it one time too

I stuff Vick up my nose every night, it stops me coughing. The thought of me spontaneously combusting whilst sweetly dreaming is very funny I must say. The headlines will read. ‘Pensioner explodes, husband blames high fibre diet’....no-one would blame Vick would they?
Another thought, I would be cremated and my ashes scattered in the Thames all in one go and nobody would have to do a thing!

I use one of the emollient creams for the dry patches on my legs but I don't smoke in bed. I shall certainly be careful

The DRI is my local hospital. Now they don't allow smoking outside the hospital, you see patients in their pj's/nighties huddled together under cover of the bus stop on the main road at the front of the hospital with their drips still attached. 😨

Wow what a scary thing and after me using cream on my legs for the celulitious problem that I suffered from, paraffin is also in the heel cream that I use every night

I was shocked when I heard the report Glamma. A very rare occurrence compared to how many people use such creams daily, of course, but scary that it can happen.

Mimi we see the same , I say if they can stand out in all weathers for a fag they don't need a Hospital bed ,
If anything happened to one of them the Hospital would be blamed for allowing them out

We see this in the lane near York hospital too, as they cannot smoke anywhere on the hospital grounds.
Although a life long non smoker myself, I do have sympathy for those who are close to the end of life, for who smoking is their comfort. Yes, smoking maybe brought them to where they are, but it won't help to stop at that stage, and I feel it is inhumane to make them go off premises. I think there should be a covered area with seating, on the grounds but away from the building. Just my opinion!

Gem - I agree about a smoking area. The hospitals are, I think, guilty of taking an easy way out for them but not the patients who need a fag from time to time just to keep going. I don't see providing them with a covered area in a secluded spot is encouraging the habit. I bet there aren't many patients who've given up smoking while in hospital!

GM - you'd better come off that high fibre diet - just in case.

the paraffin thing sounds scary - but it's horrifying how many products have 'paraffin' near the top of the list of ingredients.

Someone told me once, that on a flight they took nicotine chewing gum with them. I wonder why people don’t take it into hospital as they know they won’t be able to smoke.

GM - I've never smoked, so I don't know, but it sounds a very good idea.
