    Grandparents role in childcare article

The nursery that both my DD's have used posted this on their website today.

Both my daughters are aware of the entitlement from the government, but it sounds as though not all parents are.

Our middle gs gets his 30 hours from next September, so we will lose him on Thursdays but gain the new baby when DIL returns to work after her maternity leave.

I know my DS2 and DIL are aware, but I think the nursery also has to be part of the Scheme, and this isn't straightforward. I can't remember the exact situation. GD2 goes to a playgroup which only offers a short 'school day' (9 to 2.30 some days, 12 o'clock on others). I've noticed when I collect her on Mondays there are more mums (often with babies) than grans picking up.

My family have been able to get their nursery vouchers from going back to work they claim them through work and now get 30 hrs free nursery education but yes it depends on the nursery, they run nursery over 52 wks so there are no school hols as such it’s straight through the year

I understand that a lot of nurseries struggle to offer the service as they still have to pay their staff , rent etc, I’m not sure this is sustainable?

Avo - I think there are a lot of problems. The scheme probably needs some rethinking.
