    New Years Honours

I haven’t heard the whole list but some names do make we wonder WHY!

Ringo Starr, Barry Gibb, some rapper Wiley??, Eamonn Holmes and Nick Clegg!!!! I think it makes a mockery of the whole thing.... should it all be scrapped?

A bit obscure! Let's hope there are some worthy candidates on the full list.

I have wondered for a long time who actually decides on these honours. I know how the system works as I ha e looked into it previously and if you want to nominate someone there is a whole tranche of questions and evidence you must give. The Damehood awarded to Angela Lansbury, Knighthood for Sean Connery are two which I disagree with, neither lives in this country so why should they. E honoured and especially for doing something for which they get handsomely paid. That goes for Gibb and Starr too, neither of them live in this country do they?

The political ones have always been there. I am surprised Cameron hasn’t been knighted. I thought all ex prime ministers were (mind you Blair hasn’t been either has he?).

Honours should go to people who have done good things and in my job I have met a lot of them and they just get on with things and try to make others lives better. I know I sound like a right old curmudgeon .......

Zizi you have said everything I was thinking too ,
I hate when Celebs and sportsmen like footballers get them , Why ? They are doing what they love to do and get well paid for it ,its a mockery now ,

The little man on the street who give everything to charities without asking for thanks or anything back , Those who risk their lives to save others etc etc are the ones that should be honoured
Im not fat just 6ft too small

Yes Oma. Interesting that none of the people involved in Grenfell rescues or the Manchester/London terrorist activities are mentioned (as far as I can see)

This is exactly what I was thinking. Where are the real heroes, singers and dancers and “celebrities” really don’t need to be honoured, they’re doing what they are paid to do, and very well paid too! Don’t start me in that. I’ll join you in the curmudgeon club, Zizi 😤

I think we’re all of a similar way of thinking. Overpaid “celebs” doing what they love and earning Monopoly money. Though I do think some of them may donate to charities etc. without making a song and dance about it and so we are not aware.

I'll join the curmudgeon club as well. I think it's farcical and a mockery that top honours go to so called celebrities and politicians who are mostly (not all, I admit) in it for their own benefit.

There are so many brave people who daily risk their own lives to protect us (often from our own stupidity!) and if they are recognised they get a lowly award. They are the ones I think should get top honours, and also the people who quietly serve their communities year in year out with no thought for themselves or reward.

The system as it stands stinks, in my opinion.

                  Edit:

Clover: you posted while I was typing, and yes, there are generous people who have done well in their field and support all sorts of charities. It was interesting that nobody really knew about George Michael's generosity until after he passed away.
