    German elections

Tomorrow (Sunday) Germans go to the polls to elect the next Chancellor.

Angela Merkel is the favourite to win again, and I realise I know very little about her except that she grew up in Eat Germany and was a scientist. She always looks quite austere on tv. Anyway, I now know a little more:

Oma - I can imagine that! Are there any sensible alternatives?

Afraid I don't know much about our politics let alone Germany's Angela Merkel seems like a determined lady though.

Like Qwerty and Nanto - I'm curious about what makes people tick - especially when one way or another they can affect our lives!

Very interesting article, I didn't realise that she was brought up in East Germany.

Plant - that was about the only thing I knew about her! I didn't know anything about her family background at all.

As predicted, Angela Merkel is re-elected:

The chancellor is re-elected but AfD nationalists make a historic breakthrough, sparking protests.

I've got no idea of what each party stands for, but it sounds as though there's going to be quite a difficult coalition.

Her life has just got ten times more complicated. She looks pretty ruthless to me and used to getting her own way. Working with an unsympathetic coalition partner will not suit her at all. There were rumours that she was a member of the secret police in East Germany and responsible for several people who "disappeared". Certainly not someone I would want to meet but then I can't think of any politician that I would cross the street to see!
