Sad how a single date remains in your minds of something so awful that we would really want to forget?

16 years ago we all witnessed what was I think one of the worst things even to imagine could happen by terrorists with the bringing down of the Twin Towers and the other attacks in America.

It stunned and shocked the world and was the start of things to come, if all on a different scale nowadays. The horrors of that day don't disappear and my heart goes out to all the survivors and families who lost their loves ones, and had their lives changed forever.

Terrorism is almost an every day occurrence all these years later, and wonder what has been learnt in all this time?

Poor USA also being terrorised now by the weather, with the hurricanes now causing devastation and loss of lives as well as in the Caribbean Islands, and the earthquake in Mexico. Thinking of all those suffering and again who have had their lives turned upside down.

What is happening to our world?

Oh goodness, 16 years. I remember it so well, as I'm sure we all do. I had had a driving lesson, came home made my lunch and switched on the TV news. The first tower had been hit, which I thought it was some terrible accident. we all soon realised otherwise. I think the world has seemed a less safe place since that day,
I was in NY for my 25th wedding anniversary the year before, and we stayed opposite the twin towers, and several times walked through the ground floor to get to the riverside. it made it seem so real to me.

I remember watching thinking it was a tragic accident then watching in horror when the second one was hit and realising it was a terrorist attack .
A scene I don't think anyone will forget , so sad all those families caught up in it never will there lives be the same .

We went to NY for my 60th birthday and strange as it may seem you have to visit this place not as a tourist attraction but to pay respect, it's an unbelievable peaceful place you can hear a pin drop, I still cant believe it's happened even after 16 yrs

I don't think any of us will forget that day. I can remember it as if it was yesterday.

I was working on a dialysis unit and the patients all had headphones to listen to the TV. It was unusual for all seven patients to be staring intently at the the screen and initially I thought it was some bizarre film on at an odd time of day! That event changed all our lives in many ways.

I was helping in my son's shop and a customer came in and asked if we had a tv because of something happening in America. We found a tiny portable tv - the size of a small radio - and soon the shop was packed with people peering at the grainy pictures, all of us unable to believe what we were seeing. My DIL2 was in New Orleans at the time and was stranded there for over a week because no planes were flying in or out of the country.

The worst moment came as the second plane hit the second tower and everybody in the shop gasped in horror.

Qwerty - like you, I still can't believe it happened, and my thoughts are with all the thousands of people affected by it.

I walked into the kitchen so happy because we had just collected my DD. From the airport after her 2yr travels in Japan ,Korea, China etc.

Her brother was glued to the TV and we thought he was watching a film , her travel chums were stuck at Heathrow and didn't get home to USA for weeks

I will always remember what we where doing when this awful travesty happened,we where on our way to the Airport at Manchester we had just packed up our temp rental prior to leaving to live in Spain when the news told us what was happening so no flights for us that day and hubby cancelled the Ferry Crossing he was driving over with DS1 and our possessions.We where glued to the TV and so upset as we had been there the year before.

I was visiting my elderly aunt and uncle in Bedford when DD rang me and told me a plane had flown into one of the twin towers, I just thought what a shame not realising th full implication. It wasn't until we got back to our hotel and put on the TV that we saw the awful devastation that had been caused. Could not believe it, still can't when I see pictures of that day.

Such awful images that I think will be engrained in all our minds. Horrific. So many brave people too.
