I can remember driving out of Liverpool towards my job in Southport that morning and the traffic was virtually extinct,I just couldn't believe what had happened and was in tears the whole way to work,John had woken me at 4am to tell me of the first news of the accident and it had just been confirmed on Local News that she had died.RIP Diana.
We travelled through the outskirts of Paris on our way back from holiday in the afternoon and she was killed that evening. I woke to the news the next day and phoned my DIL who travelled back with us and she said thank goodness I am not at work today, she worked at the BBC.
Like Oma she wasn't my favourite lady but it was very very sad.
What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare
It has always bothered me why such a well used tunnel always full of traffic 24hrs a day was suddenly empty of cars from both ends when this accident happened, something I had wanted to talk about for many years.
I liked Diana, she bought a breath of fresh air to the Royal Family. She showed her two young boys the ways of the real world; and they have continued to do the things she showed them, they are a credit to her, she would be very proud. However, on another note I feel that all the programs that have been on TV this past week about 'Diana did this' and 'Diana did that' have all been exhausted now and Diana should be left now to Rest in Peace. The only thing that bothers me is that she is buried on the island in the middle of a lake at Althorp House, alone.. Somehow that saddens me, she was The Peoples Princess, and would she have chosen that spot? Perhaps she did, I don't know.
Mamma-mia - you've expressed my thoughts exactly. I think at the time her brother wanted to sort of make a point that Diana was a Spencer before she married Prince Charles and was still a Spencer when she died. I wonder what would have happened if she had been buried in London - would her grave have become a sort of shrine? Or been vandalised.
I hope the media will now back off and let her rest in peace and leave her sons with their memories of the mum they lost so young. I think William and Harry have handled it very well, and I hope it has been helpful for them to talk in the way they have, but enough is enough.

As I said before not a fan but I agree about her resting place , I remember thinking at the time it was very odd and such a remote location for someone who liked to be among people , very strange .
