    Scams

I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread warning us of scams we come across.
I have experienced one several times today

Had a few phone calls on my mobile with the numbers starting in +2482.
The calls are from the Seychelles. It's a scam.
The phone rings twice and then hangs up hoping you will return the call, the call is changed at a premium rate . The phone will be answered and then you are put on hold , the longer you are on hold , the more money they take off you.
The calls tend to be late at night, in a hope to catch you off guard I suppose.
I haven't fallen for it as I don't answer the phone to numbers I don't recognise . I found this information by looking the number up on the internet. I have since blocked the number but I suppose it's inevitable I will recive more calls with different numbers.
Bring me sunshine in your smile.

There are so many scams doing the rounds Mimi. Unfortunately, some do fall for it.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Mimi - this thread is a brilliant idea - many thanks for setting it up.

I haven't come across the Seychelles scam, but like you, I don't answer calls if I don't recognise the number.

We're still getting scam calls pretending to be from talktalk telling us our computer is about to spiral into meltdown if we don't do what they say!!!

Funny you should start this thread today Mimi, I have just had a phone call off a withheld number asking for OH, I said he wasn't in could I help, was told no, so I asked who they were and was told his bank, so I said he will be in about 4 oclock ring back then, he said he couldn't so would try him on his mobile, I rang OH just to let him know if he gets a withheld number its his bank, now afterwards I am thinking is it genuine..would you bank ring off a withheld number, doesn't make sense, or at the very least leave a number for OH to contact them...

I am just a bit suspicious because I said ring back at 4 why would the bank say they couldn't do that.?????????????

Strange though the GP and the hospital always are withheld. I think my bank is too if I remember although they so rarely call me I wouldn't remember this clearly.

I get scam calls from a local number which apparently comes from India or somewhere out there???? I haven't bothered to google it but believe they can buy a few local numbers and revert their calls through the local lines????

I've been getting a lot more calls from unknown numbers. I decided not to ring any of them back just in case. Sad side of these times.

That does sound a very suspicious call Pearl

If I am not sure about a call, I let it go to answer phone.

We've just recently got a set of house fones. They stop nuisance calls. So good in fact that until I changed it, even my DD2 found she had to go through the screening process. She wasn't a happy 🐰

I've had a phone call from "Mark" this morning supposedly from BT informing me that he can cut my BT bill by 25% and give me 3 months free landline rental ??? can you imagine BT giving you 3 free months I don't think so do you? so all be on your guard these scammers are certainly busy at the moment.

They are thinking up new ideas as we are getting wise to their scams.

I constantly get emails from my bank and they look very genuine. Each time until recently I have phoned the bank and each time I am told they would never email me except through my account noticeboard which is like a secure email just used by the customer and the bank. If I don't pick it up and it is urgent they would text me. But therewould be no detail other than to advise looking at the noticeboard on my account.

Well my favourite is the African prince who wants me to look after almost twenty million dollars until he can get out of his country as he is in trouble due to his politics. Aren't I lucky to have such a friend? I hear from him often, in my spam folder......
