I saw something about this Granma2aj but didn't read it , not needing child seats now , what about all these people who have forward facing seats that are almost new would they get a trade in when they buy new ones ?

So, from Shem's link, it looks as though you can continue to use the forward facing baby seat?? Or have I misread it.

Thanks for the link. I've passed it on to DD2 as she uses two car seats.

I obviously know how important car seats are and they should conform with standards at all times but I am amazed that my DGS2 has told us this week he has to take GGD (now 1 year old) to be fitted for a new car seat as she has out grown the one that came with her pram at birth, now the pram is supposed to be from birth -3years its one of those multi way thingy's that tie you up in knots when getting it out of the car so just can't see why the car seat part can't be made to suit the age guide also, trading in would be a good option I agree with that but what happens to all those used car seats as they are not allowed to be used on another child or am I wrong on that point,I know we could never accept them from donations when I was at work for fear of not knowing the history of the seat, the one DGS is looking is well over £100 and I know we can't put a price on safety but the parents should get some relief on the cost when buying a new one.

I think it's a case of knowing whether or not a seat has been in a crash, if you know where the seat is coming from then it's perfectly acceptable to use one from another child. Just get a random second hand one, in my opinion, would be a no no as you can't be sure of its history. My newest grandson uses the seat his older cousins used.
