Shoplifting

There were horrific scenes on the news this morning of crowds of rampaging teenagers ransacking various shops, including M&S, in Croydon.

How can we be letting anybody get away with such blatant theft? I know it's not a new problem, but it's getting worse. I wonder what it will take to make people understand that it's not ok to steal, and I wonder what the solution is.

Good lord, surely there should be store security staff preventing this?

I think its outrageous. Just before last Christmas someone watched a woman pick up a box from the shelf in our local B&M.
She just walked out of the shop with it. When someone asked the security guard why he didn't stop her,
he said we can only ask them to put it back. He said security aren't allowed to apprehend shop lifters or touch them.

I've seen the same thing happen in Iceland, and the security guy said the same thing.

A few weeks ago I saw someone walk through the gate by the Lidl self scan, not scanned or paid, walked through with someone else, wine etc in their bag, when I told the manager he said they knew but they haven't enough staff!!!

It's happening everywhere,
I can't see the point of security staff when they can't do anything about it,
They don't deter these people,
Society as a whole is broken and the court system can't give them a sentence that would count,

My Cousin is a example , he doesn't care whatever sentence he gets he knows he will be out in less than half the time .

The youths rioting through the streets should have water cannons filled with dye aimed at them , so families, friends, schools, employers etc know what they were up too,and police can spot them .

We shall have to go back to standing in line, buying the items from the person behind the counter, paying for it before we leave the store. The stores must be having to put prices up due to the stealing

I can't understand why security staff aren't allowed to stop blatant thieves like that. I'm sure they used to take suspects to the Manager's Office and the police would be called. There's no deterrent, no penalty and no redress for the shops, or indeed the honest customers who pay increased prices as a result.

Yet, if you use a self-service till staff can stop you on the way out to check your trolley and receipt. It doesn't make any sense.

Oma, probably the parents would sue the police if they used water canons filled with dye. And they'd probably be feted as heroes by their chums.
