Universal Theme Park in the UK

It seems we're going to get a large Universal Theme Park here in England.

It's destined for Bedfordshire, based on an old brick pit, which doesn't sound very promising, but there are grand plans for the site.

When we lived in that area, many years ago, the brick pit was flooded and we used to sail there! I can't imagine how different it will look.

The company says the new site is expected to create 28,000 jobs and generate £50bn for the economy.

Well as a Universal theme park fan I am excited, although I certainly feel for those living locally.

My GS1 told me about this a couple of years ago. I said I doubted it would ever happen, he was confident it would.

Although as I said to OH this morning, will I be too old by 2031??!!

It will definitely change the nature of the area. It's very rural with narrow roads, but the M1 and the A6 are nearby, there are trains, and of course, Luton Airport. It's a long time since we lived there, but I don't think there is good farmland around Stewartby, or many villages. It's within easy distance of Woburn Abbey and its attractions. To be honest, I agree with your GS1 and doubted it would ever happen. I agree, six years is a long time!!

Oma I can't do the roller coaster rides, but there are lots of fun rides which are not coasters. It's not for everyone though.

I used to love the fast roller coassters - childhood memories of the Big Dipper at Blackpool! - but I certainly couldn't ride them now.

Gem, I think the big rides have got bigger, faster and steeper over the years. And of course, we've got older. Even Big Thunder Mountain would be too much now. Last time we went to Epcot there were lots of 'easy' rides, and the whole way the theme parks work fascinates me.

I bet the Luton Airport authorities are pleased too - they've spent a fortune on development over the years.
