    I read this and wept

The story of just one primary school. How on earth can schools tackle all these very real problems. There have always been children who teachers would be concerned about and worry about, but this is in a different league - a high turnover of pupils, 70% not having English as their first language, 3 vulnerable children suffering from TB and are long-term absent, domestic violence, homelessness, child trafficking, mental health problems, lunch boxes containing left-over takeaways, or just chocolate and crisps - the list goes on and on.

Surely the whole nation should be shocked that schools like this have "grab bags" with emergency supplies for children who are suddenly homeless.

I know none of this is 'new news', and Sum1 has talked about the problems her DIL faces as a head teacher. But there was something about this article that really got to me.

A survey of teachers in England suggests lots of schools are having to provide extra help for families.

Daisy it really is heartbreaking, and shocking.

Its a world away from the experiences all our dear GC have, thank goodness.

The caring professionals at that school must be a lifeline for those families.

Gem, that's exactly what I was thinking. When I think how we all love and cherish our grandchildren and great-grandchildren, then read things like that, it's heartbreaking.

Plant, yes the staff are amazing. In most schools I suspect they go above and beyond the terms of their contracts of employment every single day. Thank God they do.
