    Winter Sales

I've just been reading a news item about how fewer people were out shopping for bargains in Boxing Day/Winter sales. One retail expert suggested that "Boxing Day has lost its shine" as fewer people queue up early to grab bargains as soon as the shops open. In fact, more shops than ever are not even opening on Boxing Day for a variety of reasons, but mainly the increased costs of paying overtime etc.

It's predicted that online spending will be higher than the 63.9% spent in 2023.

Do you still visit "The Sales" or do you find you can find discounts and promotions more easily online these days?

I can remember many many years ago when I'd go to the Sales looking for bargains among the clothes that were too expensive to buy full price at other times - things like smart suits for work, or expensive boots and shoes.

I heard that some of the big stores are closed today to “give their staff a break” but really because so many people are shopping on- line it wouldn’t be worth their while.

I heard the same, Clover, but I'm sure the staff welcome having an extra day off.

I heard the same Daisy and Clover .

Apart from occasionally buying Christmas cards, wrap and crackers I have never been interested in the January sales.

Never been to a January sale same with black Friday sales.

I remember in the 70s when I worked in a shoe shop we had the boxing day sales and all the rubbish they couldn't get rid of was put out ,people thought they were getting a bargain when in reality it was stuff that was going to get binned,
My friend worked for a big named store as a buyer, she said they buy clothes in for the sales , usually rejects or out of fashion.
There is a few bargains but not many I bet

I have never been to a sale on its opening and queuing. I need to go to our local JL to change a present, I will try and go next week.
