    Martha's Rule

This potentially life-saving procedure was born out of the tragic death of a 13 year old girl when an inquest ruled that a change of care plan could have saved her life.

It has been implemented in 143 NHS hospitals in England and enables patients who are rapidly deteriorating and their families to ring a number at the hospital to ask for an urgent review from a critical-care team.

Of the calls received so far 50% have resulted in a change of treatment, potentially saving those lives.

There are thought to have ben 15,000 preventable deaths in the UK last year, and Martha's Rule scheme is set to be developed further.

I hope none of us ever need to access this service, but it's important people know about it.

Merope Mills began her campaign after an inquest found a change of hospital care plan could have saved her daughter's life.

This is such a step forward, hopefully it will be in all hospitals by next year.
Sad this child lost her life but her mother is making sure that many more will be saved.

My goodness this is really needed isn't it?

There have been far too many tragedies like this in the news over the years.

A very brave lady acting so others won't suffer as they have.

The more people hear about Martha's Rule the more lives it will save.
