    A terrifying situation

Earlier in the week a mother in a a nearby town was out walking her dog, together with her small daughter, who was walking holding the dog's harness.

Two men approached wanting to stroke the dog. The dog wasn't happy and immediately put herself between the little girl and the men. Then one of the men grabbed the little girl and ran. The mum dropped the lead and shouted the dog to "get Emily" (the little girl). The dog launched herself at the man, biting into his leg and holding on till he let go of the little girl. The dog stood over her and wouldn't stop growling at the man.

Mum, daughter and dog are all ok, but obviously very shaken. This was in broad daylight in a 'good' residential area. The Police are obviously looking for these men, and I think the dog deserves an award for protecting her little mistress.

    Oh how awful!

Wonderful brave little dog , who I agree definitely deserves an award.

How awful for that family. What a wonderful dog though! He certainly deserves some treats!

Isn't it funny how some dogs react to people though? Our Great Dane had a thing about people in uniform and, dare I say it, dark skinned people. Could be very embarrassing! One of OH's friends came to stay and the dog just lay and watched him and every time he moved, gave a low growl. He never came back again......and I didn't like him either! Same when the police were investigating a murder. A car the same as ours had been seen near the scene, so they came to interview us. OH was abroad at the time, so it was just me. The dog was OK with one officer, but she had a problem with the younger of the two. This time she just curled her lip up and lay on my feet! I think they were glad to go.

I'm so pleased the dog was there, otherwise this could have ended so differently.

Nanto - that is exactly what the mother said.

Dogs do often seem to have an instinct about people, don't they. If DS2 and family have visitors, Cooper will always be a bit wary and usually puts himself between them and the children. He wants to be friends, but he wants to make sure the girls are safe, too.

Oma - do yo think Storm dislikes your neighbour because he knows she is unpredictable?

WeeGranny - your dog was definitely protecting you from that police man. It can be embarrassing when your dog has particular preferences, and even worse when they have particular dislikes.

When Eva finds herself in a situation she's not sure about she sits on my feet. I'm not sure who is protecting who!
