New Year's Honours List, January 2022

The traditional New Year's Honours List has been published today.

What do you think about those being honoured. Is this twice-yearly giving of gongs out of date, irrelevant or or good way of recognising people who make special contributions to our society?

I think it's all a bit daft really!

Any honours should be reserved for everyday people who go over and above to help others.

Certainly not to politicians, wealthy celebrities who just write cheques and the ilk. As for Tony Blair who took us into two illegal wars in order to boost his own ego and finances. Words fail me!

I think it should be scrapped ! Local honours should go to people who have worked for their local community not for those who are merely doing their job,e.g. actors getting gongs for services to drama etc.

As for Tony Blair...don't get me started!!

          It’s outdated now ,
Gets me when footballers and actors etc get them for services to sport and entertainment,
These people are highly paid for doing something they love , unless they do a vast amount for charity like donating not just getting huge amounts for using their faces or names , I don’t see why they should get them .

I quite like to see ordinary people being acknowledged for work they do for charities etc but as for sportsmen getting honours, well. words fail me. A knighthood for someone who, admittedly did really well in the Olympics, but a knighthood!! And I agree re Tony Blair. Probably the whole idea should be scrapped.

I agree - it's crazy and open to unsavoury accusations for high profile, well paid people in the public eye to get honours. As other have said, they are just doing their jobs and getting very well-paid.

I find it hard to believe that the Tony Blair one is one that is in the sole gift of the Queen.
