Care Home residents 'allowed out' at last

This new rule comes into force on Tuesday. I hope my mum will take advantage of it on fine days, with me or DD2.

It was lovely Oma. I had warned DD how it would go and it did - the same pattern. But they loved seeing each other and mum loved hearing about the children.

Two lots of good news, Gem. Your mum delighted to see your DD2, and the prospect of being able to take her out for something nicer than a hospital visit.

I think it is about time elderly residents were allowed to see a family member outside.

I agree, Plant. It seems unreasonable not to allow sensible outings when they are fully vaccinated.

The Care Home contacted me yesterday to say they are implementing the outdoor trips for residents from Monday.

Also mum can have 5 named visitors from next week, who can visit singly or in pairs. Same rules, pre booked, PPE, negative covid result. This will be lovely for mum and us.
My three DDs and my OH are the other named visitors.

                        Just updating here.

Things are gradually relaxing in care homes but of course they need to be careful still.
One person can now visit their loved one as often as they like, with no time limit. If I lived closer I could pop in a few times a week for short visits, but it's at least 25 minutes drive each way.
I cam take mum out, as long as I have negative lf test and fill in a form.
If there should be covid in the home, I (but no other family) would still be able to visit mum.

Things are moving on. As it is small home they still need to know when visitors are coming, as it could be risky with more people moving about to reach residents rooms.
OH and I are taking mum to the coast next Friday, which I'm sure she will enjoy.

They gave me a box of tests today, so from now on we can do the tests at home and take the results in, meaning we don't need to arrive as early.

Gem, I know being careful is the only sensible option, but all the restrictions have been so frustrating for both you and your mum, so I'm really glad they are cautiously easing them now. Doing the tests at home is a good idea. I do hope the weather is nice for your trip to the seaside next week. xx

Seems to have taken a long time to get to this Gem . We test ourselves a couple of times a week , being able to do it at home saves that half hour wait for the results , much better for you xxx
