    The European Super League (Football!)

The headline news today seems to have been about some incredibly rich football clubs putting their heads together to form a little exclusive league of their own, as well as 'normal' games as far as I can tell.

It seems to be upsetting a lot of football pundits and fans, with even the Government promising to fight against it.

Is anyone else puzzled as to why these clubs are doing this and why it's upset so many people?

I really can't understand why it's more important than anything else going on in the world at the moment.

I saw something about this on tv yesterday.
Unfortunately anything to do with football eludes me.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Football is SO important to many people though isn't it?!

Gem - yes, it does seem to be a major part of a lot of people's lives. It seemed everyone interviewed on tv yesterday was furious.

Oh well, it looks as though the Super League has collapsed already - 9 of the 12 teams have withdrawn!

DD, a massive football fan, has gone to great lengths to explain it all to me.....but to be honest I sort of glazed over after a while. It seems that the “super league” wanted to play in their league but still wanted their players and teams to be able to take part in the “ordinary” leagues. Well, that’s what I took from her explanation. She was up in arms too, I’m sure there’s more to it than that, all about money.

Enfys - that's what I understood from my OH's detailed explanation as well. But you'd have thought the players would be up in arms about having to play so many more games when there are already such a lot of leagues, competitions and what have you. Does DD support her/your local team?

Plant as much as I love GS im afraid I don't really take a interest in the game , I like to hear how his game went and if he scored or set up a goal but anything else and I switch off

Well It has all came to nothing hasn't it , AS I understand it from B they were all being blinded by money and greed .

Sadly, that's nothing new, is it.

Daisy, both DD and GS are supporters of Bournemouth AFC, both season ticket holders. She used to play for Bournemouth ladies when they first started out, years ago, a team mainly for teenagers.

Enfys - it's taken a long time for ladies' football to even start to get recognition - your DD must have been a trailblazer.
