    Duke of Edinburgh's Funeral

Did anyone watch the funeral this afternoon?

I decided not to, and I can understand that many others may have felt unable to watch it either.

But, even so, I've just watched the news and feel proud to be British. It was so beautifully done, and even the weather was amazing.

I didn't watch it either, but saw highlights later.
Good to see the princes walking together, but so sad to see the Queen sitting all alone.

I'm so glad to the weather was good, and to be honest a smaller funeral has to be easier.

I recorded it because i didn't know what time we would get in.
But, i only watched bits of it. Out of nearly 4 hours of recording, don't think i saw more than an hour.

I watched it from about 2.45 onwards , I thought the smaller funeral was much better than all the pomp ,
I did think all the Troup's were a bit over the top they were standing around for ages for a matter of minutes when the royal family arrived , A smaller escort would have been better

I also couldn't see why the Queen couldn't have at least one member sitting with her , after all when they came out of the chapel they all walked together ,

Protocol prevented her lady in waiting sitting with her despite traveling there and back in the car ,but why couldn't Charles sit with her .

Oma, it would have been lovely if the queen could have Charles sitting with her during the service, but there are far too many people out there who would object if the correct Covid restrictions weren’t being followed. Maybe things were different at the wake, behind closed doors, and the prying press photographers.
I watched the whole of the service on TV. I found it very moving. The royals are all so stoic. The queen is one amazing lady. I feel proud to be British.

I watched the beginning, then recorded the rest and watched it later. Very moving, lovely setting in Windsor Castle.

I agree Sunshine , so proud to be British and we are lucky to have a Royal Family , although some people don't agree and that's fine too .
Im sure the Queen didn't want to seem like they are allowed to do anything that the public cant , she is a fine example isnt she xx

I saw bits of it and have recorded it for another time, The Queen looked so forlorn I to am saddened Prince Charles could not be near to her during the service.
It was good the two Princes passed comments to each other what a wonderful girl Kate is somehow I don't think it would have happened if MM was present but thats just my opinion.

I watched this, didn’t intend to but ended up watching all of it. I thought it was a very moving, dignified and personal funeral. I think having few people there made it seem more personal and very poignant. I felt so sad for the Queen all on her own, but can you imagine the uproar if she had had someone next to her. It struck me that in the end we are all the same, royalty or not, the sadness of losing someone dear hits us all the same way. I hope the family rally round to offer comfort and support now. I thought Charles and Anne looked so sad walking behind the hearse, after all, they had lost a dear parent. I am not ashamed to,say I shed a few tears.

The thing that got me was Philip's carriage and his two ponies, with his cap, gloves, whip and a jar of sugar lumps in his seat. Had to resort to the tissues then.

WeeGranny - that hit me too. Carriage driving has been such a passion of the Duke's. A friend of ours has been one of his carriage driving buddies for some years, so I was also thinking how he must have felt too. It was also touching how gentle the grooms were with the horses.
