    Another airline has gone under.

Flybe announced early this morning it had gone into administration.

Feel so sorry for those who had booked with them.

Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Nanto - I was so shocked to see this on the news this morning.

Flybe is (or was) the main airline flying out of Southampton - about 95% of their total traffic - so it will have a major impact on the airport as well, plus the knock on effect of all the airport jobs. It's the main way people on the south coast get to Scotland and the north. Exeter airport will be hit hard as well.

Unfortunately a lot of the passengers won't be protected by Atol, because they would have only booked flights, not packages. Hopefully most of them will be covered by their credit card companies.

        Such a shame.
I hope everyone has booked with a credit card so will get their money back, as we did for Thomas Cook.

Our local tv news last night was full of the knock-on effect for Southampton Airport. They really need to extend the runway - it's too short for most the planes tour companies etc use. But extending it isn't easy - it runs virtually due north/south and has the M27 running east/west at one end, and train engine engineering sheds across the other. They'd have to put the M27 in a tunnel, which is expensive and raises all sorts of environmental issues as well.
