Thomas Cook on the verge of collapse

This has been around as a possibility for while now, but it was generally felt they would be rescued.
Today is seems this may not now be the case.
I feel for all those who lose jobs and holidays if the worst happens.

On a personal note, we have out flights to Orlando booked with them

Oh dear Gemini, I hope your flights are protected.

My youngest son and his wife are on holiday in the Dominican Republic but I can't remember who their holiday company, I know they booked via Hay's Travel as we always do.
I hope Thomas Cook can get out of this and can find somewhere where they can get the funding from but it doesn't look very good does it ?
Are your flights covered by insurance Gems ? I always take out my insurance when I book even if not going for a while sometimes I have been covered by annual insurance if I can get a good deal on it.

We booked with a credit card as we knew there was very vague risk, so we should get our money back. Not sure if we are covered by the insurance ,hopefully so. We took out annual insurance cover for our June holiday, which also covers this one next April.

I am not the sort of person to let money stress me, but of course I will be sad to lose our holiday as when DD looked today other companies had hiked theirs up even more, to prices unaffordable to any of us.

We may have to just get our money back, lose our villa deposit and hope to go the year after. At least we haven't bought the park tickets yet, and our Premier Inn only cost £32 at the airport.
DD2 is confident they will get their flight money back. This was my main concern as they have spent over £4000 on flights for the 4 of them.
Just crossing our fingers really, that's all we can do.

If you booked with credit card you should be ok. We got our money refunded when Monarch went bust.

I think Gem did as well.

Yes, we paid with credit card.

Only government intervention can save them now, which fills me with no faith at all.

It's a sad end to such a long-standing company. I've only skim read this but it seems flight only is covered by insurance (or credit card) and the government is supposed to be repatriating stranded clients. It's such a pity for all the staff and all those whose holidays have been affected.

Gem, I hope you can rebook with another airline - I know how much you are all looking forward to this holiday. Perhaps in 3 or 4 weeks the other airlines will have returned their prices to normal - I hope so.

The tour firm's failure means more than 150,000 British tourists will need to be repatriated.

Just watched the news, the airports are busy repatriating people who were on holiday
