Appalling. All that history, artworks and a beautiful building, just gone.

Saw it on the news earlier but hoped they would get it under control.

This is so sad. I was shocked when I saw the news coverage last night. I think it is the most beautiful church building I have even been in

Saw this on the news last night just before I went to bed.
I turned the radio this morning and a news report was playing the crowds that had gathered at the scene were signing 'Ava Maria ' while watching the fire, it was very moving, it gave me goose bumps
Apparently some artworks and items of historic value were saved because of a crew of 'chain gang' firefighters

Reminded me of York Minster and Windsor Castle being on fire.

Nanto, I agree. Any building on fire is distressing but iconic beautiful ancient cathedrals and castles leave you with a feeling of disbelief that it should happen to them. 😰

They said on the news they are sure it wasn't arson but mentioned it might have started by renovations project.

For some reason I find this far more upsetting than the York Minster fire (which was of course terrible)
I think it is because just after my friend and daughter were murdered in Israel I l was in Paris and lit candles for them in Notre Dame, and was so touched by the beauty of the place. I think the place is somehow tied up with all that for me.

We visited Nortra Dame many years ago, a stunning building there was a lot of ancient wooden carvings In friezes you could hardly make them out they were so old, they will have burned like tinder I would imagine , I feel so sorry for the people of France it’s like us losing Westminster Abbey , sad for the Pariseanes
