He sent a message to friends just before the plane went off radar, saying he was scared they were going to crash. There are treacherous currents in the sea area where they disappeared, and of course the sea is bitterly cold. Sadly it will be a miracle if they have survived.
He was obviously a very popular player in France, and from the photo of the pilot he looked mature and experienced.
