Enfys - that must have felt quite strange, finding a great uncle you didn't know you had. Did you know you can download a Memorial Certificate from the CWGC? You can go to the list of names of those remembered at Tyne Cott, search for his name and download the certificate as a PDF.

Qwerty - I think a lot of brave soldiers never collected their medals. I think for many of them they were just glad the war was over and wanted to put it behind them if they could.

The search didn't work for me, even though I had all the correct details, and I ended up scrolling through the tragically long list until I found my uncle. I hope you can find your great uncle.

The search worked straight away and I’ve found the certificate, thanks so much Daisy. I will print it off and put it on his page I made for him in my family scrapbook.

Enfys - well done. I'm glad the search worked. The name I was looking for is quite long and unusual so it was easy to spot - finding a more common name would have been quite time consuming.

I also sent the PDF to my surviving cousin, so he can have a copy too.
