    Which music at your funeral?

As I touched on this in another thread, I thought I would give it's own topic

Have you thought of which music, songs or hymns you would like at your funeral?

I want The Elizabethan Serenade at the beginning, and the theme tune to The Archers at the end. It is bouncy and perky and I hope it may make them smile!

Right at the very beggining of the service, the vicar did say
The choice of music is not mine,it's not the choice of family, it is R*** choice.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Love your choices, particularly the choice of the father of a friend of your son Nanto.

I love It's a Wonderful World but I don't want to make the family cry.

I'll have to think about it! I might just leave it to the family!

One friend's funeral we went to went out to the Match of the Day theme tune - needless to say he was a huge football fan.

Another friend, at a woodland burial, was lowered into the ground to The Teddy Bear's Picnic. His wife's choice because she loved Teddy Bears. She'd told me in advance, but it was interesting to see people's reactions as they gradually realised what the music was!

One of our friend's had 'I'm forever blowing bubbles' as he was a great West Ham fan!

I want the Radezsky March played when people are leaving after the service! A bit of clapping and foot-tapping should be a good way to say goodbye!

I think it is a good idea to choose yourself, I was caught unawares when asked for the music choice for my OH's funeral, would have liked a bit longer to decide.

It is a sad time Plant isn’t it to think about these things ,but at the same time uplifting if you get the right music, I told my OH I wanted Charles Aznevour SHE , I have it already , OH wants us to cry a lot I think, he wants to come in to Art Garfunkel Bridge over troubled water and go out to Matt Munro Softly as I leave you , 😢 and whilst sitting and contemplating his life Les Mis Bring him Home oh my gosh !!!

After going to a horrendous funeral with DD ( her first), she asked if we would please write down what we wanted done when we die, otherwise she'd get the school choir to come and sing! So I've done that for her, not sure about OH though apart from the fact that he wants his ashes scattered from Dunkery Beacon. Will have to make sure the wind's in the right direction when that happens!!!!

I have just lost my dear wonderful Dad. He died on Good Friday. He was 94. Needless to say it has left a huge hole in my family But he had already chosen his music/songs etc. Going in he wants IL DIVO singing Amazing Grace, then Abide with me. Then the sailors hymn 'TRINITY', and then a piece by Enya 'If I could be where you are'. He hasn't chosen music for coming out so my sister and I will probably decide on that one. It sounds as though his Service will be a fairly long one with all his chosen music. But he did mention 'In the Navy' by The Village People, his querky sense of humour lives on..He wants a Dark Oak Coffin and his ashes scattered at sea. He was in the Navy in WW2 and wants to return to the sea. He will have most certainly left his mark on his funeral!!!! That's my Dad xx

Mamma Mia, my deepest condolences. Even when they live to a good age, as your dad did, it hurts so much to lose them.

How nice that he made his wishes known and you can honour them xxx

                            Sending condolences MM.

We have done all sorts such as made the flat completely eco friendly, installed all sorts of good stuff to keep us warm and air conditioning to keep us cool (I know not particularly necessary in this country but living by the airport in dry hot weather is not always the best so have it in bedrooms and sitting room, was part of the offer when we had the new triple glazing done). The last thing is our wills which are way out of date. I bought some self making wills (not the right expression I know) on line and we are currently sorting those out. They came with a funeral wish list including what you want for coffins, music, flowers or not etc. Plus other things which we would not have thought of.

Mamma Mia - Sending love and hugs on the loss of your dear Dad. It sounds as though he was a lovely man, with a great sense of humour, and one who served our country at huge risk to his own life. God bless him, may he rest in peace. xxx
