    How observant are you?

I don’t know what prompted this line of thought but here goes.

Yesterday after the cooker engineer had left I got to thinking that if I had to describe him could I do it? Though I was face to face with him for several minutes I coouldn’t tell you the colour of his eyes, his hair style or even it’s colour.I have a feeling he was gingery but I couldn’t swear to it..Did he have any facial hair? I haven’t a clue!

In day to day life I think I am fairly observant, often noticing things that completely pass OH by..It’s always been like this even before OH became ill.Is it a man thing do you think? When I was nursing we were taught to notice things.Perhaps I’m just nosy and like to watch what people are up to.

However describing a person’s appearance after a brief glance,or longer in my case, would be impossible for me.How some people who witness a crime for instance can describe someone’s appearance well enough for an artist to sketch is beyond me.

I'm the same Clover I have often said if I witnessed a crime they would have to Hypnotise me to get any info , although I notice most everything else ,
I don't notice car colour or make as proven when I have tried to get in what I think is our car and sometimes its not even the same colour never mind make
Facial features don't always register , sometimes I have answered the door to the post man taken whatever he is handing me and I often wonder if I even looked at him as I couldn't tell you what he looked like and that's just after closing the door .
Im not fat just 6ft too small

I don't think I am very observant in that way. Do you remember The Krypton Factor? They had an observation round and I concentrated really hard on the little film to try to get the clues.

I definitely don't notice car types!!!

One thing I tend to notice and others often miss is someone's mood, if they seem down, quiet, not quite themselves.

I'm not bad at describing someone i've met, but not observant enough to notice eye colour.
I can describe what someone is/was wearing.
Hubby says i'm not observant,i'm nosy.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

You see Nanto I couldn’t describe what the engineer was wearing at all
I think it’s very observant of you to be able to remember what people are wearing.
              I’d make a hopeless witness

I could tell you everything a person was wearing the colour of their hair etc only to find on occasion bumping into them later and they were nothing like I described bald and sometimes not even the same sex 😳

                  Qwerty - I love it!

I'm not observant, and I'm very bad at recognising people, especially if they're 'out of context'. When I was doing social photography I could spend a very intense hour or so taking photos of someone, and not even have a glimmer of recognition the next day! It was quite embarrassing at times. My excuse was that I looked at them in a different way from behind the camera!

But, Clover, you've made me think, and I can actually describe the young man who delivered the dog food today - about 4 hours ago. He was nearly 6' dark brown eyes, short, slightly wave dark hair, round face, quite heavily built wearing a hoodie and jeans.

I tend to notice things that jar, like someone wearing the wrong colour eyeshadow or lipstick. But if you asked me what colour socks I'm wearing right now, I'd have to look to check!

I am quite observant, I seem to notice the eyes, especially if they are blue or brown and hair colour and styles.

We had a very unpleasant few months a few years ago when a person who I would describe as a tramp but he wasn’t, he had a home, used to walk around the streets with bags and go rummaging through the rubbish bins and shout obscenities very loudly. He would go past the parked cars (mine included) and whack the wing mirrors and pull off the windscreen wipers. It went on for ages and was awful. In the end the police got involved and several of us had to go to court. Of six of us only two households actually recognised the pictures of him given by the police despite regularly seeing him but you would have been very hard pushed to recognise him when he was in court as he was trimmed and washed and clean unlike what he looked like when he was playing up.

                            Plant - I think you're right!

Zizi - I remember that episode, and I'm not surprised people didn't recognise him in court when he was all scrubbed up and tidy. What happened to him?

When my sister in law was doing her nurse training a man ran into the classroom and then ran out again. Ten minutes later they were asked to describe him. They were all amazed at the different descriptions put forward. All quite sincere but often total opposites.

Interesting as an eye witness in a court case would be a significant piece of evidence.
