At the moment I'm using my DIL2's car, which they are thinking of selling and I'm trying it out to see if I'd like it.

So this morning, I jumped in, cursing a little because the windows were all steamed up and I had to work out which knob did demisting quickly. Checked offside, nearside and rear view mirrors and loked all round as well, very conscious of child kicking football across the road and a taxi parked right opposite our drive. Still looking round everywhere reversed - straight into OH's shiny new car parked behind and to the side of DIL's. It was such a gentle crunch I really thought I hadn't done much damage. But apparently shiny new cars are designed to crumple to protect pedestrians and go into melt down in a collision with an older tougher car!!!

DIL was fine, but I think OH was a little teensy weeny bit cross with me.

Oh naughty Daisy but its only a car no one was hurt it can be repaired and as long as you are alright , I'm sure hubby will get over it even if he does remind you of it every chance he gets if anything like mine

Oma - I don't think OH will keep reminding me - his record is far worse than mine!!!

It was an expensive mistake, but the cars will be fixed and ok. I was cross with myself for miscalculating.

It is very annoying when these things happen, I have to be very careful garageing my car , I have caught the wing a couple of times.

Oh dear Daisy!!
The only accident I have had was when I at slow speed went into the back of a car at the lights. I hadn't realised he had stopped suddenly, and I wasn't slowing down fast enough. My fault (although I think it was each of our faults!)
Anyway I hardly touched his car and it was at slow speed but it was damaged at the back. Brand new and shiny red, he wasn't pleased. In fact he was horrible to me! He was so nasty I was glad I damaged his precious car! Your info explains why that happened then Daisy.

Clover, no it hasn't put me off the car, but it has confirmed DS2's warning that rear visibility isn't great, there are wide pillars back and front.

Gem, I must admit I've never been in a road accident/incident that was my fault, but it is horrible when the other driver is so aggressive - people generally don't go out intending to hit another car! And his precious shiny red car was still drivable.

Daisy blind spots are a problem , we once had a car like that and I would go out of my way not to have to reverse hated it , but it was such a reliable car never let us down all the time we had it

Oma - It's surprising what we'll put up with for reliability. I'm sure the perfect car must exist, but I haven't found it yet! My Picasso got close, and when the time comes to change the Zafira I'd look for another Picasso. We never buy new cars, so it's a matter of looking round and making compromises. I think the worst car we ever had for rear view was an Audi estate - it had a sort of styling bar right across the back window, exactly at my eye level. OH could see over it but I couldn't! Reversing was exciting to say the least!
