    Let's make a list

Of good advice to ourselves about what not to do when we get old(er)

    To kick off:

Don't repeat your stories or if you're not sure you've told them, check first.

Check your clothes carefully before putting them on to make sure there are no little stains that you hadn't noticed.

Never, never, never talk about your ailments.

    Or your surgery.

    Or your feet.

Make sure you know your times tables so you aren't shamed by a six year old.

    Ditto, tricky spellings

Don't use a hashtag on Facebook

Learn common acronyms so that you don't embarrass yourself.

    More suggestions please.

          Don't say "In my day"

Remember to have a clean hanky/tissues not just for runny noses but also for those times when your eyes run.

Don't start saying "Huh these youngsters"

Try to remember what's hip with kids and what's not.

Don't say "I can't eat that, it gives me indigestion".

              "If I were you …"

"We didn't have all these electronic things in our day. We went out to play in all weathers."

"We were lucky if we had a week in Blackpool" (or other well-known family seaside places)

"I remember when petrol was 4/6d a gallon."

"Don't tell your mother/father" puts too much emotional strain on grandchildren. Try not to say "cool".........it embarrasses them!

The last time I saw you, you were........!

Say anything controversial in a whisper! The person you're talking about is bound to hear you!

You're not going out wearing that are you?

Of course you're cold, you're not wearing a vest!

I think this thread needs revisiting, it made me smile
I was doing a little Admin housekeeping when I came across it.
I'm sure the 'Guest' who started it was Sum1Ls, before she changed her name. As we all know guests can't post, so she became Guest after this

What a good idea, Gem. It makes me smile, too. I think you're right about it being Sum1ls's thread.

                            I'll add

Don't say "In my day ..."

                            - we walked to school - three miles there and back in all weathers

                            - we didn't have indoor loos let alone one downstairs and one upstairs

                            - nobody had a phone

                            - I had six pence a week pocket money
