I must admit we don't see ours as often as we used to. We don't even live that far away from each other but, as Mimi says, they seem to be so busy doing things like acting classes, riding lessons, karate, swimming, rugby, Cubs, sleep overs etc. They did come around for husband's birthdays last Sunday and it was a lovely day. Now we will not see them for three weeks as they are all off camping together for a week, then Joe is on cub camp (it is his birthday while he is away) then we will see him the next weekend complete with birthday cake. He wants a rugby/cricket cake, challenge for grandma!

It's my birthday soon and my ideal day won't happen now. It would be to be together with DS and his family and DD and hers. DS is in Australia, DD's children are grown up, one working away from home and one about to go to Uni, so our days of family get togethers are practically non existent. So it will probably be me and DH going out for a meal. But that's absolutely fine because we have had all the big family do's, they have their own busy lives now and we really treasure our memories. The times we do all get together are lovely but we also enjoy just being the two of us...Darby and Joan

Qwerty, your ideal day sounds perfect
Aggie, I can understand how just a lie in would be the perfect birthday treat for you just now.
Enfys, I'm sorry your ideal can't be, but hope the day you do have is lovely.

Enfys I'm sure you and OH will have a lovely day, whatever you do.
Gem - I could let my imagination go if you like ......
The day starts with OH bringing me breakfast in bed - just Bucks Fizz, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and an Americano. A nice hot shower, with the perfect outfit of clothes laid out on the bed ready to slip into, including the right pair of comfortable but smart shoes. A limo to Southampton or Bournemouth airport to take a private jet to Paris. A walk round - perhaps on the banks of the Seine followed by lunch at an excellent pavement cafe to watch the world go by for an hour or so. Fly back to UK and meet up with family and a few close friends at a nice hotel. Stay the night, and home after breakfast the following day. It would of course be sunny, there would be no traffic jams or holdups, the food and service would be perfect and someone would carry my camera for me!!!
The reality is likely to be ..... up early to go to DS2's to collect both GDs (it's half term), bring them back home. Cook fish fingers and chips. Paint or play in the garden depending on the weather. Take them back home and give them their teas, and by the time I get back here OH will have gone to wood turning! At least I'll be able to put my feet up and have control of the remote.

I have just planned my 70th birthday celebrations and I am now looking forward to this summer.
Ten years ago my DDs planned a surprise party for me which was lovely. Earlier this year they asked me what I wanted to do so we planned it together.
My birthday is on a Thursday so I am going to my usual yoga class but will be going out for a meal in the evening with my OH. The next day I am treating my retired work colleagues to a lunch somewhere. We have been meeting monthly since we retired nineteen years ago from teaching together.
βOn Saturday I have booked tea and cake at our local stately home. It is called Lazy Daisy tearooms. It is sandwiches, cake and tea served on Victorian style china. We thought it would be better than dinner for the GDsand will just be DDs, SILs and the little ones.
On the Sunday our friends are holding a charity barbeque to raise funds for the local community first responder group as my OH is the coordinator.
If the queen can have have several birthday celebrations so can I.
I wasn't looking forward to the next decade but will enjoy this weekend.
