The Driving Test

Reading the news that Nanto's GD has just passed her driving test has made me wonder about your or your family's driving test stories.

My children, I readily admit are far more intelligent than me yet all 4 didn't pass their test until their 4th attempt,I passed first time,so what does that say.No no not keep that woman off the road.

Of my GC two passed first time and two second time around. My Dd passed first time but my DS was on the second attempt, I passed first time

I passed my test first time and my Mum, ever keen to build up my confidence, told me it was because I was wearing a mini skirt!! When DD1 passed her test she said she was going out for a drive on her own. When she got back I said we would have to think about her having a few motorway driving lessons - "No need, that's where I've been. Practicing getting on and off the motorway."

Shemadee - Gulp! I bet all the awful motorway horror stories flashed through your mind when DD1 said that!

I think I was incredibly lucky to pass - I literally had to drive along a pavement for about 100 yards because the road was blocked by a removal van and there was traffic behind me so I couldn't reverse and ask to go a different way! When the examiner told me I'd passed, he actually cracked a smile and said 'but don't drive on any more pavements'!!!

My DS1 passed first time and had to drive on the motorway when there was a family emergency a few days later, DS2 passed his car test 2nd time and his bike test 1st time. At least he managed to fit in a motorway lesson.

I was a late starter. I didnt sit behind the wheel until my late 40's, and passed my test a month before my 50th birthday. No problem with the theory test ( online at test centre) or ' under the bonnet test'. Actual driving test I passed 4th time. One of the 3 fails I failed before we even left the test centre! It was on reverse bay parking.

DDs 1 and 3 passed 2nd time. DD2, a most accomplished driver who travels up and down the country regularly for business now, passed 4th time like I did.

I passed 1st time and had a real emergency stop on my test , my DS passed first time but my DD who has never failed at anything in her life took 4 attempts till she passed . she is one of the most confident drivers i know and doesnt bat a eye lid on the motorway , Her examiner said she was a little over confident on her tests so made silly mistakes , I have driven since i was 17 till i gave up a couple of years ago

I was fine with the driving but the tests!!, my knees would actually shake....passed on my 4th attempt, I was determined to do it.

DD passed 2nd time, DS on his first , DGD on her 2nd and now DGS has just started lessons. Of course, DH never fails to tell us he passed first time too . Back I our day there was no theory and the roads were quieter I'm sure. But I still,have never driven in a motorway......never had reason too and too scared to try now!

Enfys, I have never driven on a motorway, and never intend to. I feel sure I will go under the wheels of the nearest lorry. It's a real fear, so I won't do it. I have to drive on dual carriageways regularly to collect GD from school, to vist 2 DDs and my sister. Everyone says if you can do that you can do a motorway, but to me it is vastly different!

I actually feel safer driving on a motorway. All the traffic's going in the same direction, no right turns and you don't have to go fast if you don't want to. I can't imagine not using motorways. But, as Enfys said, it was much quieter on all roads years ago when I started driving, and I lived about 2 miles from the M6 so it was very useful. I probably wouldn't be so confident now!

I passed first time when I was in my early 30s and I don't think Mr Glamma has ever gotten over the shock really,he was convinced it was a flash in the pan thing with me and that I would get bored and give up,but hey-ho he got a shock alright when I rang him at work I could hear the surprise in his voice I wanted my independence to take DS2 back and forth to school save getting the bus etc on cold mornings it encouraged me to go for my career with home builders as a car was a necessity.I do like driving and still remember some of the instructions I got from my instructor.

I had a driving licence for years and never managed to drive ! It was before the days of driving tests here in Northern Ireland . I was always so nervous that I just gave up
