Yesterday I had a message claiming to be from my son. They asked me if I was busy, I said I was cooking my dinner. They replied they were letting me know that they had changed their tel number. I decided to phone son on the number I had always used and of course, the message was not from him. I don’t know what the purpose of the call was as I immediately deleted it.

Plant this is quite common. They usually say they have lost or broken their phone and are using a new one. Then they say they need money to get home.
They are opportunists taking a gamble that the person has a son.
A friend of mine got caught out this way a couple of years ago. She unwisely asked 'Is this you Sam', and of course the other person replied yes!

A lady from the gym was telling me that her DD was in Thailand for a month, she kept in touch daily, one day she said she was going out on a boat with a young man, they didn't hear anything for 2 days so she sent. a message to ask if she was alright, she got a reply, " of course I am", the lady didn't trust it as anyone could have had her phone so she asked, " what are your father and my names"? She got that right so all was forgiven! Nothing can be trusted nowadays.

It's the text ones that say hi mum I've changed my number ,
For 1 my children wouldn't call me mum ,
I never trust these things .

I have asked similar questions, I once got a message supposed to be from a friend asking how I was ,
I said we were fine then the message was have you heard about my good luck.
I instantly knew it was a scam so I said I didn't believe they were who they said they were and if it was my friend they would know my Dad's name .
They didn't reply and deleted the message ,
I contacted my friend to tell her to warn other friends.

Oma, I have had a couple of the I wanted to share my good luck texts over the years. I have smelt a rat each time and ignored them
One was from a lady I didn't even know! We had given away some spare tomato plants and our only contact had been me arranging to drop them off for her. Most kind of her to want to share her good fortune with me on such slight acquaintance

Plant, well done on your quick reactions. These pests can easily catch you unawares, especially if you're busy and pre-occupied with something.
If I my phone doesn't show the name of the caller I don't say anything. Scam calls ring off very quickly."Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "

I have a thing on my phone that says scam call ,it will either block the call or I just block them ,
I was getting up to 5-6 a day. The odd one I have answered was always from Amazon or the phone company ,
Indian call centres with names like Eric or Sharron, something silly like that with a strong Indian accent.
