Tell us about your Wedding dresses/outfits

Plant's GD is planning her July wedding, and has still to get her dress. When I got married in the late 60s a lot of brides had their dresses specially made for them - often by clever, talented relatives, and it was planned/made/bought between the engagement and the wedding.

Were you pleased with your dress, did you keep it, have it altered to pass it on to someone else or sell it?

My Dress was a white knee length shoe string strapped affair , I wore a lace bolero type top with it , I was only a 8-10 in those days

Kept it for years Then my DD's friend asked if she could wear it for a beach wedding so I gave her it , no idea what happened to it after that

I have still got my wedding outfit. After DS1 was born,i lost quite a bit of weight.
My Auntie altered it for me,so i could wear it at a friends wedding.
There is no way i could fit into it now.
It is pink with lurex running through it,but i think the colour has faded a bit now.
It was a matching dress and coat. I had navy bag and shoes to go with it.
        Not the best photo.

Bought my dress but I made my veil. It’s all still up in the loft.

                Aww lovely photos ladies

My wedding dress (1975) was a full length Laura Ashley dress. In dusky pink with wine coloured tiny flowers sprigged all over it. I will try to sort a photo out.

Pink suede shoes. Literally the only 'high heels' I have ever worn!

I must try and find a photo as well! We organised our wedding in 6 weeks to fit in with a pre-arranged holiday! One of my two adult bridesmaids and I spent a day in town and bought my dress and two bridesmaids' dresses in Debenhams. It had long lace sleeves and was very plain. I think I got my going away outfit at the same time - a deep pink sleeveless mini dress and coat, navy blue shoes and handbag, no hat! I wore the going away outfit a lot and kept it for years. My SIL-to-be bought my little bridesmaid's dress but unfortunately forgot to bring it to the actual wedding.

On the topic of family making wedding dresses, my lovely auntie (dads sister) made my mum's wedding dress and the bridesmaid dresses.
She was a very talented seamstress. She only had one child, a son, and no GC, so probably didn't get to make as many lovely things as she could have done.

I bought my in Rackhams in Birmingham. We were living with OH's mother in Staffs. Because my OH had been married before we had to wait for the decree nisi to be issued. We moved down to my home ready for the wedding, the date was a bit uncertain, my poor mother. I had my hair done in the morning, I suddenly remembered I should really have some flowers so popped into a florist and chose anemones (my mothers favourite flower). We drove to the registry office, just parents and witnesses and returned to a party in the garden. We then went off to tour Devon and Cornwall and finishing up in Hampshire.

Mine cost £10. I made it myself and my bf made hers and the two young bridesmaids dresses from 4 yards of Laura Ashley sprigged cotton. I must have a photo somewhere I’ll try to find it.

Plant - I remember shopping in Rackhams. Fancy you not thinking about flowers! Anemones were my mother's favourite flowers too. I've still got the glass bowl she always put them in.

Sum1 - I bet you all looked great.
