Gem, funnily enough I can't remember if I hurt myself. I remember my dad explaining that I couldn't fly and I wasn't to try again!

I think it's great to see youngsters with an inbuilt sense of style and not wanting to follow the herd.

That has reminded me of when I was about 6 , we didn't have any spare money for fancy stuff we were to poor , not that I realised at that age , but one day my uncle who we didn't see much who was wealthy had his own business came and asked my Dad to help him pick something up and I tagged along ,
The place we went to had a shop next door sort of in the cellar and as we passed I looked down to see the most beautiful party dress I have ever seen
It was yellow with TUTU netting under it and covered in lace and tiny pearls ,
I couldn't move it was so beautiful ,
So there I was a snotty nosed little girl in her duffle coat and wellies and my Uncle took me into the shop and bought it

I wore it to my school Christmas party and I thought I was a fairy princess I was the envy of everyone , I wore that dress on any occasion I could till it dropped off my back ,
I have never owned anything so beautiful since ,

I do remember my Mam laughing saying to Dad well you could have put shoes on her rather than wellies when you took her out , wellies don't go with a frock like that
Im not fat just 6ft too small

Oh Oma I can picture that dress, and you in it. You must have felt like a princess, wellies or not! How kind of your uncle. 😊

One Christmas I had a black doll. I had asked for her and longed for her. I wasn't disappointed. She was beautiful, with a gorgeous dress of tiny red and white checks and a white gauzy over pinafore with Pedigree on it in gold. Although it wasn't my dress, I got pleasure from its beauty 😊

Oma - what a lovely memory. I can picture you in that dress too. You must have felt like a proper princess in it. What a kind uncle.

When I was 5 I was bridesmaid to the daughter of family friends. Clothes were still on coupons, but I had a pink organza dress with little puff sleeves and a tiered long skirt. It was lined with a deeper pink taffeta, and I loved it. After the wedding somebody (mother of the bride or my auntie, I don't know who) carefully took it apart and made the taffeta lining into a party dress for me. She was able to make it a little bigger and I wore it at every opportunity for a couple of years. Then came the day when I'd grown too big for it. I was so sad. I also had white sandals to wear for the wedding - an unheard of luxury for us, and I was equally proud of those.
