    Finding time for yourself

Some times I wonder where my time goes. a while ago I promised I'd find more time to do things I want to do, but life has a way of scuppering plans and ideas.

This morning OH and I were driving over the Forest in thick mist. The road rises relatively steeply and as we reached the highest point the sun was just peeping through and the misty view was amazing. I didn't have my camera with me, and we didn't have time to stop anyway, but I realised I hadn't been out just to take photographs for ages.

It's just too easy to think "I haven't got time right now" or "it's too much effort".

Does anyone else feel like that about their interests and hobbies?

Daisy , I was just talking to the girl who was washing my hair in hairdressers this morning about the same thing ,
She was saying her Mam has been retired almost a year now and said she doesn't know how she fitted work and every day life in as she is so busy now and doesn't have time to do anything she promised herself she would do when she retired .

Life takes over and you leave things to one side with a hope you will get around to it but something always pops up .

I have reached the age when I only do things I want to do, apart from nasties like the dentist. I don't really have demands on my time now, just please myself. Unfortunately the drawback is you have to be 80.

We always say we thought life slowed down when you are retired.
Not for us it isn't,we always seem to be busy.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Last Thursday, a rare free week day for OH and I together, we went to Whitby. It was lovely and we said This is what you picture retirement to be, but something we rarely do.

I am busy with both generations and being secretary of a group, my OH has her golf, and sometimes a bit of gardening for people. We should make more time for things we enjoy.

Nanto - you do an awful lot for your in-laws so no wonder you're always busy.

Gem - Every time we go away in the caravan we say we should do more of this, but commitments seem to accumulate and some social things need booking well in advance, so even in a 'normal' year (not like this one) we find it hard to fit in as many trips as we'd really like.

Perhaps we have to book our 'retirement activities/holidays/days out' a long way in advance and then hope the weather is ok!

You have hit the nail right on the head Daisy. The only way to ensure time for yourself, or holiday/breaks away, is to book them in your Diary well in advance. Book them in the diary and don’t change your plans except in extreme circumstances. Your own well being IS of utmost importance and you owe it to yourself to look after your needs. If you wait for a quiet time, it just won’t happen.

Sunshine - as usual, you're right. It's no use waiting for a quiet time.

My time seems to be spent crafting for the GC these days. Well, that & hospital appt's. OH & I say we should put a day aside a week to go places but it hasn't happened yet. Strange how his golf days seem to tho.😉

Nana - I know what you mean. My OH doesn't play golf but he has other interests and commitments and life is organised round them. I don't mind in the winter but next year I am going to try very hard to get holidays booked in!

Golf does affect our plans especially in summer. If OH was a worse golfer it would be easier, as she would be picked for less comps!

To be fair though it is probably my 'Sandwich Generation' commitments which stop us more, and mostly my mum. The DDs can and do make other arrangements for GC when I want a break, but it's not so easy with my mum, who takes a lot of my time, and no siblings to help me. This year elderly cats too have made a difference.

I agree with the others Daisy, get a holiday booked so it is on the calendar.

Gem - it's good that S is enjoying her golf so much - but I know what you mean!

                            Plant - yep. I think it's time to start planning - I must get a 2020 calendar.

Yup, just do it. Tomorrow never comes. Seize the day, or a fortnight away!
